THAT wasn't dancing MUSIC, HI energy was WHERE it WAS at. I used to go HOME drowned in SWEAT at the END of the night

Coasters played Tapps, Bobby O, The Flirts, Divine, Lime, etc, as well as more mainstream dance.

Brilliant nights.

Great introduction for us youngsters into Brighton's nightlife.

I used the Lyndon Club every Friday afternoon / early evening in the mid 70s, used to meet my brother in there after work, always the same people in there, many times saw Sid's son in there and had a chat with him, for some reason Large G&Ts were always the order of the day and we all used to spoof for the rounds, great memorys.

I lived at bottom of Waterloo St and used to go into Lyndon Club...Sid to shine to my missus and made her work on bar whenever we came in haha..cool....free drinks for Dave!

My brothers name is Dave and mine is pretty obvious, what era did you use the Lyndon? we also used the pub just next to it (can't for the life of me remember the name of it) well used the pool table normally after the Lyndon shut, by then we were always very well oiled  do you remember the spoof games?

There was often 3 of us, me my brother and a guy called George Mckenzie, he was VERY tall and thin, he was well known because his brother Alistair was the keyboards player with Suzi quotro at the time.

Foreign student's night at the Top Rank Suit. Full of fit young foreign fillies looking for English sausage but seem to remember having to be careful
about their age!

All ages downstairs and over 18's only upstairs.

Walking tall past those bouncers on the stairs at the age of 15 !!

Happy Dyas

The place of choice was to take them down the beach afterwards, I managed the full set one summer - Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, top totty all round.

I stumbled across this brilliant thread having typed in 'coasters Brighton' into Google....I am creating a playlist of all the poynient music from my early clubbing days, starting with Saturday night all age disco at the The Court, the all age night on a Tuesday at the Top Rank with DJ Phil Leppard, Coasters , Pink Coconut/Paradox, Orianos, Nightfever.

Does anyone remember the court from 1980/81? It was an old dance school in Gloucester Place, just along from Mr Ks. On a Saturday night it opened as a Disco Run by what we described as Queen Victoria. Very strict and the music would quite often stop mid track, while she told everyone off because she'd found cigarette butts in the toilet!!! HAA.

Then Coasters with DJ Rory. What was his catchprase; 'BONA' ? Straight blokes dancing to gay music (Boystown Gang, Evelyn Thomas, Donna Summer, Lime, Divine, Hazel Dean, Sylvestor - What else???) Coasters was ahead of its time as Brighton didn't have an overtly gay scene in those days. Yet Rory in his leather chaps and cap would mince around Brighton with his pink poodles! 1983/84 was my era there. When did it finally close? It would fit in very well in Brighton these days.....Anyone know what became of Rory??? I have my suspicions!

Having read this entire thread, it seems we all went to the same places in teh same order..I suppose there was an obvious pub route in those days with a few variables. 7.30 in the Druids (no mobile phones needed...It was religion. Just show up and you'd all be there!), Pump House, Sussex, Carvers (Black Lion),Annabels (Smugglers), then clubbing. Was it the Cage downstairs of Annabels. Quite seedy and druggy but brilliant! Upstairs was Nightfever. Always a smell of Amo' Nitrate! I recall the blond barmaid was also a model in one of the porn mags....

These days I'm happy with a real ale pub and a curry after, but I wouldn't change the past for anything!

Most of my 80s was involved with KingTafarLove, and we did blues parties all over the town during the late 70s and through the 80s... became a popular after party place for people after the clubs shut...

Started off in '82 with Tuesday nights at the Top Rank & remember one of my mates having a fake Birth Certificate to get upstairs if challenged by the Bouncers, which would then be passed by a helpful elder or dropped from the balcony to any unfortunate who was stopped & turned away.
Coasters on Saturday nights until it closed. Then Busbys & later Pink Coconut or Orianas.
Same pubs as most: Smugglers, Shades, Swifts, Druids Head or Black Lion. Remember Frock & Jacket was always heaving on Saturday nights, even on the stairs, and sold bottles of Red Stripe.
Good times
Happy days.
