Nights out in Brighton for the more discerning gentleman - ideas please.

Am arranging a stag do for a 41 year old and a following group of 30/40 somethings.

Day time fun and games all sorted and looking at spending a Friday and Saturday night in our beloved city.

However, having not lived locally for a long time, I am (perhaps foolishly) asking the wise folk of NSC for suggestions for a night out in Brighton.

Being a group of older, wiser, more discerning gentlemen, we do not really want to end up in West St surrounded by 18 yr olds (at least not until much later).

So, what would you suggest?

Good luck. Not a lot of places let in large groups. And anything outside of West Street will be a little too small, I would have though.

The Black Lion, The Cricketers, The Mesmirist (sp?)

All in the same area and don't seem to draw in the 18 year old crowd as much.

pub crawl through North Laine and/or Lanes, take in one of the many resturants then casino and/or Funky Budda which is a bit older (well the music is)

Had my stag do in Brighton a couple of years ago, and we spent the Saturday night in Komedia and then headed straight into the club night there (was something Motown-related). Was a good laugh with plenty of booze and an opportunity for a bit of a boogie without having to endure West Street.

Go and eat at The Coal Shed then aim for for here A back to basics pub that provides a sanctuary from the way we live now and the pace with which life is led. then go to a strip club.

The North Laine, just opened so no idea what the entrance policy is but it's big and beautifull and open till 2:30 fri/Sat. But i doubt that thay will let an obvious stag night in, but if you are a bit less obvious, who knows.
Anyway, have a good night and do try to persuade the silly sod not to go through with it.

That's a negatory for the Mesmerist. They don't let same sex groups in. Which is a shame if you're gay, or on a stag/hen night. Mixed groups only.

Ah, that would explain why me and my friends were turned away a few months back, was pretty pissed off. They'll just have to find some sleazy ladies before entry then!

This. Always has an older clientèle, funky music and they've made it look slightly less like a village hall than it used to be.

Avoid West Street and now also anywhere down near the Picture and Piano, it seems as if the shit has moved down that way too. its actually rancid down that way now.

I would consider a boozing session through various pubs on Hove or Brighton but stay well away from any clubs.

Are all the clubs *really* that bad now? I know from my Uni days that Brighton offered the full range - from 'cheese' to 'meat market' and plenty besides. Rarely hear a good word said about the scene now. Too much fighting and too many beered-up bellends, right?
