Nightmare Travelling from Bristol

Stumpy Tim

Well-known member
My Bristol-based Brighton supporting mate rang this morning in a panic about travel from Bristol. He went down to Bristol station this morning & apparently, British Rail have made the great decision to put engineering works between Bristol & Cardiff on Sunday & there won't be any trains before 10.15am.

This may not seem too bad, but last time City went to Cardiff for the LDV he got to the station at 7am & couldn't get on a train before 10am.

I suggest people find alternative ways to travel!

All true. There are earlier services but they will be replaced by buses. Obviously a bus is not going to be taking too many people.

The trains out of Temple Meads for the LDV were a shambles - huge queues stretching miles out of the station. Of course, people were drinking too, so by the time you got anywhere near the station you had to wade through lakes of piss where people had just gone there and then rather than risk losing their space in the queue. Nice.

There are only two real suggestions:

Get South of Bristol and get on a train somewhere that is going straight through to Cardiff (ie it will stop at Temple Meads, but you will not have to change) - you do NOT want to be changing at Temple Meads.

If you can't do the above - get there really, really early and be prepared for a wait.

Earley, actually
just phoned national rail enquiries. They say no engineering works but all seats on Paddington-Cardiff trains are now booked and they can't guarantee that extra peolpe will be allowed on.

I'd suggest otherwise - no extra trains are being laid on at all. The expected capacity of the normal trains is 4-5000 by all accounts.

35000 cider drinkers would prefer not to use their cars.

I’m driving from Cardiff to Bristol after the match. Then catching a train from Bristol to Exeter – I take it this track is unaffected?
