Bendter banned for one game and fined for his celebration against Portugal.

For those who haven't seen it, he pulls down his shorts to show the top of his boxers which are sponsored by Paddy Power.

At least UEFA have their priority's right.... :dunce:

What was all that about Ronaldo's red vest? I heard he'd written something on it which no-one could see, but that may have been a Twitter wind-up. All I could see was the Nike logo.

A message to his son whose birthday it was.

Russia were fined £24,000 for fans throwing fireworks, displaying provocative banners ("This is Russia" etc.) to the Poles and a fan running on the pitch, I'm not a great fan of Bendtner but it doesn't seem fair to me.

Nearly four times what Russia got fined for the crowd trouble against Poland. Uefa are a joke.

Stewards getting battered vs Taking money out of Platini's pocket? Hard to guess which one is considered to be more dastardly.

I don't have a problem with that. He hasn't acted spontaneously when scoring like some removing their shirt and has obviously earnt money from Paddypower. What is ludicrous is the pitifully low fines handed out to Associations relating to fan behaviour, particularly racism.

From @MasonEcho on twitter:

UEFA fines: £45,000 Spain 2004 (racism); £16,500 Serbia 2007 (racism); £10,000 Croatia 2008 (racism). €100,000 Bendtner (exposing pants).

Disgusting. As the post above shows, more than twice the size of any fine for racism.

I think that says it all about the priorities of football at the top! After all why the hell is the tournament out there in the first place? Any country where the foreign office advices black people not to travel has no right hosting an international tiddlywinks tournament.

UEFA far more concerned at the potential loss of money from major sponsors than punishing racist chanting.

What is the point of fines at this level anyway? The money Bendter probably got from Paddy Power and his wages makes the fine redundant. What is 45k to the Spainish FA or 10k to Croatia. Token gestures. Play games behind closed doors or deduct points for persistent offenders.

He got a one match ban.

i like how uefa are fining bendtner for it, yet the bbc football website has pictures of said incident thus increasing the attention to the sponsorship. i don't understand why paddy power would want to pay money to put their name on a players pants. who sees that on some pants and thinks "oh, thats great advertisement, i must go put a bet on with paddy power!"

Q: How many betting sites are there? A: Lots
Q: Which are you most likely to go to if you want to put a bet on? A: The ones you remember the name of because you see them most often

I would imagine Paddy Power will pay his fine, but where he's come unstuck is the one match ban.

You're talking about them, therefore the advertising has worked.
