Bansko Seagull
Bansko Seagull
There is a hotel overlooking the Falls and if you go up in the lift you have a spectacular view. The hotel expects visitors to do this!
I thought I saw an investigative journalism show on TV (W5 maybe?) which reported that the tourism tax was a rip-off with any tax money collected not going toward public tourism funding. In fact, the business's charging the tax were simply keeping the money. Also, if I recall correctly, you could refuse to pay the tax and get it taken off your bill. You couldn't dispute the tourism tax on a hotel bill unless you you noticed it when you checked-in (as that constitutes an agreement apparently) but you could refuse to pay in restaurants and other attractions. It was a few years since I saw the show on TV so things may have changed......or I may be just totally wrong but I don't think so.Yea Niagara is pretty tacky. Living an hour away, if I were to ever move away and visit, I’d vote for staying in Toronto then just visiting for the day.
Niagara also has its own “Niagara tax”, if going anywhere downtown. Shameful.
Enjoy your trip!
