there needs to be a significant presence in close proximity, 15min within 2 meters, for the system to alert you as needing to isolate/test. passing someone in the street or shopping aisle shouldnt trigger a warning.
Yeah just downloaded, hopefully it'll help.
But 2 in 3 accurate positives that presumably we wouldn't otherwise have had?
No because there is a need for a swab test result, before the app looks to see who has been in contaact with the covid carrier.
So it requires a positive test for me to be alerted of proximity, not just someone reporting symptoms?
That's my understanding, it's a safety feature to stop someone using the app to say they have symptons then going to as many crowded places as possible to get everyone else to isolate.
You need to have had a test, the test result will provide you with a code which you then input into your phone, and only after that does anyone else's phone get a message that they may have been in contact with you.
That clears up one of my worries. Outside of the home I doubt I have any close contacts for that length of time
Yeah...me too I have a feeling the main thing this app will do for me is to remind me just what an anti-social misanthrope I really am. The odds of me getting within 2 metres of anyonefor any length of time is almost zero, outside my close family (and even then...rarely).
In fact, I can't really work out how middle-age British men are catching this thing!*
*given we no longer go to football
Comes down to the same ol' thing: responsible members of society trying to do what's best for people they know and people they don't know vs selfish covidiots convinced of their own immortality and furk everybody else

Can't be doing with all this non-compliance conspiracy nonsense - since I don't partake of terrorism or espionage I don't give a monkeys if some spook from MI6 or GCHQ wants to track when I go to Tescos or wherever.
What I might find useful is a text from NHS to tell me than when I was in Tesco between 3pm and 3:15pm yesterday, some one who has subsequently tested positive for Covid was in the shop at the same time and would I like to come along for a covid test to put my mind at rest that I have / haven't contracted it too.
