Every day this week there has been a whole page in The Metro with the heading "American Football" as if it is one of the regular sports we should be reading about. Why do they think they can try and bring there poncy, shoulder pad wearing, advert fuelled "football" nonsense to our country?

You can't beat having a Friday grumble

We've had a 26 foot tall model of an NFL player erected here in Canary Wharf this week. I know those guys are big, but not that big.

Dont forget that the Brighton B52s used to play at Withdean in the 1980's. They were one of the best British sides in the country. Attendances used to average between 1500 and 3000 and the entertainment was a good afternoon out. They played an exhibition match against an American State College team and lost 76-0 but the attendance at Withdean was over 12,500.

same time as our other Rugby sport - Rugby League is being marginalised by the media.

We're going on Sunday. The children are really looking forward to.

We're Bears fans though but will be the first time my children have been to a live game so it should be good.

I know, that's what I'm moaning about.

They have put stories in about the Dolphins and whatever the other team is, looking at their form as if everyone has been closely following the NFL season

Make sure you have some good reading material, for the 2 hours or so, when the ball isn't in play!!

Brilliant sport and im off to watch on Sunday. I enjoy playing and watching American Football more than I do normal football.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I went to a game at Withdean and we walked out after 15 minutes or at least my parents did and I had to follow (I was only 5 or 6).

A poor excuse for a sport. The excitement, the anticipation and just as things are getting going, play stops and you end up with a completely different team taking to the field. The players/jocks seem to think that they are doublehard bastards, yet they are effectively wearing full body armour. I would love to see one of these guys bulldozed by a raging Tongan, Samoan or Kiwi.

The sheer commercial shite that is associated with the whole concept of NFL should be enough to put anyone off this fantasy warfare.

I gave it a go and played a bit, but it was the crappest sport I have ever played. Stop. Start. Stop. Start.

The Dolphins suck this season, so it's probably going to be a slaughter. I like American football and having just got back from the states where I watched a few games only tele am wishing I'd bought a ticket for Wembley.

World Series is also on at the mo and I'm hoping (little hope) that the Rockies can come back from two nothing down to beat the Red Sox who knocked out my favorite team the Cleveland Indians.
*waits for inevitable arguement that it's not a world series*

I might take a vague interest in the sport if they abolished timeouts allowing the game to flow. And as for the helmets and shoulder pads, have they not seen Rugby?

Was at Victoria as well. Pain in the arse with everyone stopping to take photos of it, getting in the way of important people trying to catch a train home.

Metro gives over regular column inches to the NBA and I'm sure this is in no small part an attempt to appeal to black male readership in London.

As for the NFL, a great sport, second only to football in my world.

Paddy and I have been to a lot of NFL games and go most Sunday's to the BAFL here and drag the kids along so they are more than prepared for what will happen.

That and we have a box so they can do whatever if they lose interest and not be stuck in a seat with no room for moving around..

Ok , so the game length with all the stoppages was over 3 hours. It was interesting to watch it as a game of strategy , once you got your head around the rules. If it got boring you could always queue up for 20 minutes to get an incinerated patty of meat which they called a burger. Also the cheerleaders warming up used to be interesting.
