Wait so do they move permanently or just for a season? Is it just a tweak on the loan system? The article doesn't make it clear.

My understanding is that each year every Premier League club puts up 5 U20 players that are placed into the draft, and they all go on a season long loan. Obviously there would need to be tweaks for our league, but it does seem a sensible idea. It basically forces Premier League clubs to put their young players out on loan to get game time

Who pays the wages of these players.

Assuming that the parent club has no control over which club they join, there may be problems if a player from a passing team goes to a long ball team, and if this was already in place would Celtic be willing to loan players to Rangers, but would Rangers actually pick any Celtic players even f they were the only players left in the draft.

Does it distort the nature of the Scottish Championship, so that a team gets promotion to the Premiership on the back of the loan players, but has to hand these back and immediately lose half their team for the new season, whereby they are totally thrashed every week and immediately get relegated but then get the lower picks for the next season and therefore find themselves relegated again.

Non starter in my view

So if all the clubs put out 6 you get five per Championship club. The downside to this is that it may discourage Championship clubs to bring through their own players, particularly as they'll have to be competing with 5 other youngsters each year, all likely more talented.
