The view of the sports writers out here is that the new OT rule is a an unnecessary gimmick which will reward teams so fired up for overtime that they immediately give up points. They also think it will change strategy – if Team A kicks the field goal then Team B’s coach has to make a decision, does he aggressively try to win it with a touchdown or be content to tie it up and then go back to real sudden death? This sounds great – for video games.

At the moment, as the new rule is only for the playoffs they can’t see it being used that much anyway - in the last 16 years there has been extra time in 14 playoffs (that’s only an average of 1.14 games a year – the yanks love their stats) and it’s never happened in the Superbowl.

draft time is approaching.

i have cleared the diary for the friday so can stay up and watch. hopefully nfl.com will function correctly, though we found a stream last year that worked fine.

there is a highlights programme from the first round on sky sports at 9am on friday 23rd.

back to the nfl
big ben has had his file handed to the da for charges. tsk tsk.

i'm already fearing the worse for da bears next year, mike martz and his vertical offence need to get f***ed and out of chicago, he is alienating half the team and is a general fool.
the GM has to deliver this season, really is all or nothing. wish he and lovie had been given the heave ho at the end of last season. we'll be lucky to make 7-9 this year. packers and vikings look good and i think even bloody detroit have improved and will do well draft wise - suh or okung in the first round.

think the jets have made some shrewd moves, holmes is out for the first four games but even so, they have to be serious contenders next year.

I don't get it, for a team that has so many First picks how come the Lions are so crap ? One of these days they should have a great team.

I still think that the Patriots will be the team to beat although the Giants continue to improve.

Honestly, and i promise without meaning to be rude, did you watch NFL last season? Pats are not what they were and the Giants were in free fall for most of last season? ???

On another note (wanting to get away from the Big Ben fucks ups rapidly!) that looks to be a monster of a contract for Brandon Marshall. Would have liked to see him go somewhere that he could have been challenging for rings rather than for the money and the lifestyle but good luck to him. Will certainly start to see if Henne is up to it in Miami with a proper receiver to throw to

The Pats were poor last season but they still showed the pieces of class that mean that they have and will continue to be a top team and capable of anything in this league. With a large number of draft picks, particularly in the second round and after having secured their own free agents, the Patriots are in a good position to take on the afl east and who knows after that.

The Giants however will be average this year and I don't think they'll make the post-season.

Agree that that seems a very big contract for Marshall. As a Broncos fan I have mixed views on this. While I'm sorry to see him go as our number 1 receiver, the off the field stuff has dragged on for far too long so hopefully it will benefit us in having a more stable locker room. I'd really like to see us get in an experienced receiver now but the latest draft guesses have us down for signing Bryant early on and he is due in Denver this week.

Christ if the Jets looked dangerous last season they must be one of the favourites for this season. I know the players are a bit older but as additons to a side that nearly made the Superbowl last year Cromartie, LT, Holmes and now Taylor are 4 pretty huge signings i'd say

They had a very limited passing game last year due to the Brady/Welker injuries and they still finished 8-8 if i'm not mistaken. I reckon they will strengthen at RB (Marohney is not a 25 plus down back) and I can see them picking up Dwyer from Georgia Tech later on in the first round.

I hope to god Suh goes first (And that the Bucs trade up to get him) The lad deserves to go down in Cornhusker folklore for everything he has done there. Can see the Rams trading down and picking up Clausen or Bradford at around 4-10 after the Redskins aquired Mcnabb. I can see the 'skins going after McCoy, Crompton or Pike.

Also hope Tebow ends up in Arizona as I'm not sure they are convinced by Leinhart. Don't like it when teams just sign players to fill their stadiums (Like it is rumoured Jacksonville are planning to do with him).

Also want Bryant goes to Denver at 11. Seems everone wants to kick the lad while hes down.

NFL schedule released tonight and the bad news for the Donkey Centre Half is that his Broncos are in the bold new city of the south on opening day when my house will be full up with in-laws ahead of the wife's 40th birthday.
Oh well mate. It's far too hot to go to football in Florida in September anyway!

The NFL Draft WILL NOT be on Sky.

The whole first round will be LIVE on ESPN from 12:30am Friday morning.

I believe ESPN are showing highlights of rounds 2 & 3 on Monday night

good news about the espn. will go round the brothers to watch it. looking forward to it.

just as the soccerball season winds down we have this to look forward to.

chicago start against detroit at soldier field, that result will probably say a lot about the season to come. not hopeful at all. i'm going to wait for the leeds fixtures for next season and then plan our trips over.

2. lions - suh

3. buccs - mccoy

4. redskins - buluga

5. chiefs - okung

bears to be sat around waiting for their first pick - round three, 75th. we have the fewest picks since the draft started - five. and absolutely no chance of trading up. hopefully a decent linebacker or right tackle will still be on the board.

A different set. Delayed "repatriation" now brought forward from 4th May to 30th April.

Cowboys pick 27, and I'm hoping for Taylor Mays, unless Iupati is still on the board. Don't expect he will be though, and we can help our o-line in round 2 with Ducasse.

The Big 12 are owning the top of the draft. The Chiefs are surely wetting themselves about Okung dropping to them.
