I really can't see any of these teams making it, not in the next ten years at least. There are too many bigger clubs down there that have better rescources who will attract all the better players, the Lutons, Oxfords, Yorks, Cambridges and (AFC) Wimbledons of this world.

Of course, there is odd minnow, even by conference standards, that will sneak up into League Two, but I just can't see it being one of the Sussex clubs.

Realistically the only towns in Sussex which could support a League team are Crawley, Eastbourne and Worthing. Of the three Crawley are best placed at the moment, they have a nice stadium and a supportive council. However they struggle to attract the crowds needed to finance a promotion campaign against the bigger clubs.

What's the capacity of Worthing and Eastbourne's grounds? I don't know about Eastbourne, but Worthing would struggle to find a site for a new (larger) ground.

Nope, from whisperings i've heard the idea for any new ground for WFC in the future would be financing a multiplex similair to Chichester Cineworld with food outlets etc......except with a football stadium, somewhere around goring I beleive.

Our capacity is around 3-4,000 but our ground grading is nowhere near league standard. We'd struggle to get into conference with our ground as it.

The multiplex idea is way in the future though, and is only a rumour, so who knows what'll happen in the future!

i THINK eastbourne's ground is actually bigger than crawley's?

i'm not sure if it meets the other requirements of league football, as i have no idea what they are!

edit, according to wikipedia:

eastbourne borough- 4134

crawley- 4996

no idea where i got the thought that eastbournes was bigger from!

If Accrington (and Scarborough before them) can get into the league then it's certainly possible for Crawley. Crawley have a better ground, and a catchment area that absolutely DWARFS Accrington's.

To be honest, I don't think getting into the league is the big challenge. It's a far bigger challenge to get into the league and establish yourself as a perennial lower league side. Wycombe managed it and so have Colchester, and arguably Barnet, but a lot of other new league teams seem to struggle to simply stay in the league and lose money hand over fist while doing so.

Full time would be the next objective for Eastbourne Borough, but that requires money. The way the club is set up prevents anyone holding more than 49% of a share in the club meaning that no one person can ever own the club.In the meantime if you know anyone who would like to stick a few quid in let us know.We could also do with a couple of players so when you guys have your turn out bear us in mind,we need to avoid relegation.

It's not a capacity question. In theory a team can build a stadium to any size they like (see darlingtons bizarre white elephant). IMO what matters is having a large enough catchment area to be able to attract decent crowds and having a supportive council who will help you develop the facilities needed.
