Next Saturday I attempt to break a Guinness World Record

Some of you may already know that this year I am completing over 67,000 burpees, a full body exercise, to help raise money for new fetal endoscopic equipment at St George's Hospital, Tooting, after they saved the lives of our twin boys whilst still in the womb after we were diagnosed with twin to twin transfusion syndrome. There's a story about it here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3456100/Twincredible-baby-boys-saved-operation-womb.html.

The premise of my challenge is to add one burpee a day, and I started on the 1st January. So today is the 331st day of the year so I must do 331 burpees. Tomorrow 332 burpees, Sunday 333 burpees and so on. From the first day of the year I have been filming all of my daily burpees to prove they are being done and posting them here:

https://www.facebook.com/ForTheBoysTTTS/
https://twitter.com/ForTheBoysTTTS

However, in addition to this, starting from 9am next Saturday 3rd December at Ultimate U Fitness at Worthing Football Club I attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of burpees in 12 and 24 hours. I'll be there until 9am Sunday 4th. It's turned into quite a big production and I really am looking forward to what should be an event full of positive vibes.

If you are around the area then please do pop in and say hi. We have a silent auction (including a signed Albion shirt donated by the club) and a raffle with currently 34 prizes - and decent ones at that. Worthing are playing at home as well so I'm encouraging anyone who pops in to go and take in a game as well.

So far I have raised over £6,000 and whilst the Just Giving link is here, you can also text TTTS97 £10 to 70070: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-petersttts

We have had some great media coverage, not to mention visiting The Amex do burpees there:

As I say, if you are about then please poke your head in. I'll be the one bouncing up and down for 24hrs...:mad:

It's an incredible feat, it truly is. On a personal level I'm honoured to say that my friend is giving this a go (old man soup afterwards?) but for anyone to even try to do the challenge let alone the world record attempt is just...well to put it in perspective, i've just had a 3rd slice of toast and done nothing so far today.

I'm gonna try to make it down to cheer you on.

Incredible stuff.

What are the current records?

I should've stated that! The record for 12hrs is 6,800 and the record for 24hrs is 10,110.

All the very best of luck to you. I've been following your progress via Twatter since you started on this mission, but only just found out the numbers. I'll do my best to pop in, and might even do a few with you, if that's allowed?

I'm interested to know your approach/plan (if you have a set one). Just doing a few sums for the 12 hour record, that's 566 an hour, or nine a minute. Are you going to bust a load out – say, 2,000 – and then rest, or go hour by hour? And if you break the record for 12 hours, will you then carry on, or quit, safe in the knowledge that you've got a world record?

Genuinely fascinated and in awe of your achievements.

Wow, I had never realised you were on here! I have been following on twitter but never twigged.

This is simply the best fundraising I have seen, it is brilliant.

I get paid next Wednesday and will make a donation then.

Hey,

Thanks very much for the lovely note. You are spot on. I'm going to try and blitz the first 2,000 as quickly as I can which will reduce the hourly rate for the next 10hrs. I managed 1200 in 90mins a few weeks ago. I also have to take into account how adrenaline will play a part as well at the start of the event. However, I also have to take into account lunch/dinner. Obviously I won't be stopping for a full-on gourmet meal but I'll need something and a small break afterwards to let it digest.

If I break the 12hrs there's no way I'm stopping. The 24hr record is the big one for me to be honest. I'll be doing a live Facebook video from The Burpee Guy page as well if you wanted to check in at all. Would really appreciate the support. It's going to be a great day with some many people there. We have over 30 raffle prizes as well which have all been provided by local businesses. It's already achieved more than I ever expected. Right, I now have to head home to get day 331 done before I head off to Brighton!

Thanks so much again. Catch up soon!

Perhaps I should have a photo of The Burpee Guy logo rather than a random Hannibal Lecter one! Thanks so much for the support. It genuinely is spurring me on each day when I have to get my set done.

Cheers for the reply – sounds like a good plan. What about energy bars/gels instead of/as well as food? I know someone who has a large supply and I'm sure he'd be able to donate some.

I'll deffo be there on Saturday morning at least – and hopefully pop back in the evening to see how it's going.

Just 'liked' the Facebook page and watch the Day 300 video. Another donation from me, too.

Good luck.
