I CAN'T SEE HER............

The 'shiny' bits on the seats are perspex covers for the press. We were in the left hand block immediately behind them, in the front row.
:p

Scott Chamberlain was chose MoM by the supporters votes last night.
There is a story about him from the official site. You can see how gutted he was.

Not surprised he was made MOM.....I think if he was on the one hand a little more careful with his final ball, but on the other hand a little more confident when going forward, he could do a decent job for the first team next year. Have we ever had a midfielder coming through the ranks? [Not counting Shaun Wilkinson who may have played a few games under Hinsh, but couldn't really be described as a success]

How about Hammond. Also Mayo started as a midfielder. Marney would presumably count as the same as Wilkinson.

Sorry - silly me, forgetting about Hammond. And Mayo! As for Marney, I thought he had promise at some stage, but I was obviously wrong. If I was a betting man (and I am), I'd say that Chamberlain, Elphick and Gargan will all make decent pros, based on last night. Fraser and Fogden also played well....in fact, all 14 of the guys who appeared at St James' were a credit to the club.

There were probably about 2,000 at the game, with a guesstimate of around 50 or so from Brighton. This included the Scottish ALBAs, who were in good voice. The atmosphere was very friendly, and during the first half there was a decent amount of singing from the small Albion contingent (in the 2nd half the ALBAs went and sat somewhere else, not sure why, so it was difficult to get the singing going).

Sorry we moved for the second half, Jim. I think it was that man Parsons idea (he can take the blame he was enjoying himself too much) to get a better view of the flood of goals we expected. We still did our best to find out where the hammer net was but to no avail. They just wouldn't tell us. :lolol: :lolol:

Also sorry to the lads for us missing the penalty shoot out. We were booked on the 9.45 train, the very last one back to Edinburgh so we had to abandon the boys in their hour of need and we couldn't even applaud their efforts before the mad dash to the station..

Gutted when we got the call to break the news.

The boys did well... and so did the fans. Everyone should be very proud of themselves.   :drink:

We all managed to get our connections at Edinburgh and get home around 1.00am.

Quality BHAlba day out.

I apologise for the quality of these photos. They were only taken with my phone.

This is a plaque on the walkway in front of the main entrance. Brian is married to Martin Perry's secretary. He comes from Newcastle. It is good to know that the Seagulls are there as part of St James Park.

(sorry about the executive suite photo. I hadn't had too many, honestly)

Was really impressed with St James Park - was expecting it to be like West Ham and Tottenham, big but a little tatty at the edges, but the whole thing looked completely new, obviously a very impressive rebuilding job. It reminded me of a slightly smaller version of the Millennium Stadium.

Damn shame about the penalty shoot-out, particularly from 2-0 up. You can tell by the way Lynch and Gatting slotted theirs that they had been in bigger games, but alas that Fraser and Chamberlain hadn't. The Toon goalie, a big Dutch lad, was very impressive and filled the goal, apparently he'd got them through a penalty shoot-out in the earlier rounds against Stoke. Sam Gargan was very unlucky with the last pen, great connection but unfortunately unlike Adam Virgo's it didn't clip the underside of the bar but just a little bit higher and it bounced out.

The game was a pretty dour, edgy defensive encounter to be honest which neither side really deserved to win. Both teams looked very well organised behind variants of 4-5-1s and keen not to lose the game literally on a schoolboy error.

In the first half we stroked the ball around at the ball patiently enough but the midfield couldn't get any attacking game going at all or supply the wide players and Gatting had one of those games that CKR sometimes has, isolated and getting on the wrong side of the ref with too many fouls. Fogden seemed to be the only midfielder who could find any space, but Newcastle had the better chances.

In the second half it got better for us and the game became more even as Wilkins made the necessary changes. The wingers Leach and Jarvis who never got into the game were sacrificed and Gargan brought on the give more support up front to Gatting. Chamberlain became more influential in this half. Fogden was moved to rightback to cover for the injured Hinshelwood but still contributed well, and had a decent shout for a penalty near full time.

In extra time I think we got the upper hand and Fogden set up a great chance for Gatting near the end but it summed up a frustrating evening for him that he hit the post.

The big positives on the night for me were Lynch, who was majestic in defence and had some fine surging upfield runs towards the end. I thought Fogden was excellent too, I would choose him as our most hardworking and creative player, with Chamberlain coming through well too after a quiet start. Gatting was unfortunately marked out of the game and I wonder if he could do with a rest from first team duties, even though our alternatives remain slim. I think calls for any more of the youth team to make full debuts are a bit premature at this stage.

Apart from the goalie I thought Newcastle had the best player of the night in an attacking midfielder called James Troisi.

The Newcastle paper said there were 1,200 there - and well done to BHAlba for giving the local Geordie urchins a good contest with the singing :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:
