Planning to travel to Newcastle on the Saturday and leave on the Monday morning. Usual Premier Inn / Travelodge are quite pricey by their normal standards. Has anyone stayed out of the City and travelled by Metro etc before? Any tips much appreciated even staying 10-30 miles away and travelling if that makes a difference. TYIA

Yes - we did an AirBnB in Gateshead for the league game in October. Worked fine - the public transport system is top. One ticket covers both buses and metro.

We’d do it again - great city.

We are staying in Durham. It was 55 quid in the Premier Inn (East) when I booked.

SJP has a metro station but it's easily also walkable from Monument or Haymarket

Pretty sure SJP is on the same line as the coastal towns- Tynemouth, Whitley Bay etc

It's also very walkable from the train station

Try Jesmond. Did it a few years ago. Metro was about 15 mins into city centre.

Not a bad shout. I used to live in Jesmond and to be honest it's very walkable into the city centre. Plenty of bars (although they're mostly very studenty), shops and cafes

Walking into town from there you can go via the Collingwood Arms and also the Wylam Brewery bar in Exhibition park
