Well over budget apparently. Bloom has asked to cut corners by taking old left-over stock of seats from various baby shops to be used instead of the luxury padded ones.
Infact, I have got a sneak peek of the very seat that will be used in Falmer.

Fixed cost to Tony of 160K or so a day, everyone needs to take these claims of the project being over budget and off schedule with a bucket load of salt, it's all going to be fine.

What does 'over budget' mean? If you are a sub-contractor, installing stairs, say, it might mean that the firm you are working for has a fixed-price deal that was supposed to get the job done in six months for. X thousand pounds.

Unfortunately your incompetent boss failed to price the job right and he has had to spend more on stair parts than he originally thought. This means he is 'over budget'.

His lads may have to take a pay cut because of this. But, sure as hell, the Football Club aren't going to stump up more money to bail out an incompetent sub contractor.

Alternatively, 'over budget' might mean something quite different and there will be no seats in the North Stand and we'll all have to watch football just like we used to on the terraces.

Keep these rumours flowing.

Exactly, no supplier can go back from extra costs due to a poor quote. If the club changed something or upgraded certain features then fair enough, but not if it's all as per the quotation supplied many many months ago

The club would be liable for any changes caused by new legislation not allowed for in the original bid – building and fire codes, disabled access, anti terrorism etc. These can be quite hefty, sometimes they are waived by the LA if work has started but sometimes they are enforced.

If anyone would know all about the intricacies of the stadium finance, it would be a bloke who's working on the stairs. That's for sure.

Don't Buckingham have to pick up the cost? I think its a fixed price contract.

No they don't, If its for.... additional works... change of scope... actual cost overspend on a provisional sum they are entitled to further payments + OH&P.

Most quotes in the building game are only open for 120 days, therefore if orders have not been placed in time then contractors are within their rights to request additional costs.

People need to realise that it's in a builders nature to come out with these stories. The subbies saying that it's over budget or not going to be finished on time are their attempt at sounding in the know.

When I used to work on building sites doing network installs every bloke you spoke to had some kind of story to tell about things going wrong - it's what gets them through the day

I hope it's gone over because Tony's ordered gold taps and crocodile skin upholstery. He's a man of wealth and taste.

As Freddie Mercury said "budget, oh do f**k off."

Well if the stair bloke says it then it must be true. What does the man who's installing the hand dryers in the toilets think?
