If my memory recalls correctly, a few years ago we had a green and black shirt which was launched with the same crap transfer logo (which I bought). But I remember that later in the year it was sewn on, did I imagine that?

Anyway, I won't be buying it as it is!

Yep that's me buying a retro kit instead.
The Nike leisure wear better be bloody good or this whole change will be a fiasco

Pretty sure you didn't imagine it. Think the first batch had iron on logos and the later ones were printed/sewn on.

How come they can get the sponsor's logo right on the GK shirts but not the outfield ones?

View attachment 56508

Simply, because the outfield shirt has stripes on it, and Nike do not have a shirt which has a break in the stripes to accommodate a sponsorship logo.

If our home shirt was all blue, say, or Nike had a shirt with a break in the stripes then they would have applied letters in the same way as has been done as per the 'keeper shirt.

Maybe someone can fire off an email to Barber about this and see what sort of reply he will return?

But surely our kit was 'bespoke', no? Meaning the shirt was designed from scratch and not an off the shelf template with the sponsor logo attached?

It is because American Express will only allow their logo on plain backgrounds and not on strips. So if our shirt had a white bar like last season or was just blue then it would have been like the keepers shirt.

Ok; that makes sense. It's a shame because it does look pants. I really like the new shirts apart from this. As others have said, you'd have thought they could have matched the whites, at least. Unless there's a good reason for that too?

I replied before. Same answer: no, it's a bespoke kit, created for the Albion.

You can buy plain versions of the 2nd and 3rd, without badges, from numerous online stores. Links in other kit threads.
Is bespoke a colloquial term for shite?

No need, I have an email from Paul from when the shirts were first unveiled. Copy and pasted below:

- Nike uses plastic iron on-style logos on all its shirts - including Barcelona, Juventus and Man U; the sublimation printing option (as per Errea's last kit) isn't available to any club from Nike

- our sponsor logo is "white blocked" to meet Amex corporate ID guidelines - it's not "Sunday league" - it's conforming to the corporate ID rules of one of the world's most protected brands!

- if we could done it a different way we would have - striped shirts are always a challenge for application of sponsor logos (or numbers) and this is further complicated by a sponsor logo that's blue!

- the size of the white block is determined by Football League regulations and, like most sponsors, Amex require maximum permitted size for their logo; there has to be a minimum amount of white space around the Amex lettering

- last year's shirt also had a "white block" around the Amex logo - it meant that the stripes were broken in a different way as it was printed in to the shirt design (many fans hated this!)

- we can't have a blue or white Nike logo because one half of wouldn't show up against our stripes! So it had to be black (or another contrasting colour)

- we went for plain back to address the lettering / numbering issue of last year - and also to give the shirt a unique look: no other club in the world has this shirt!

- red numbers were not available to us and in any case would not have shown up on a blue-backed shirt!

- by contrast, using templates for away and third kit has enabled us to keep prove of shirt down and below most fan's expectations (we buy in the quantities we need and waste/costs are minimised; it's efficient and it's sensible for fans and club alike in this climate)

But it's bespoke, so why not allow a space for the sponsor rather than use an iron-on plastic patch? I'm beginning to think the word bespoke has been used as a marketing tool. If it is truly bespoke the designer must have been on work experience and forgot that they needed to include a sponsor's name.

Edit: I've just seen Bozza's post above which explains a lot, but unfortunately doesn't improve the end product.

I can understand that but until you see the shirt in the flesh or on here you can't really make a pre judgement on it. The response from people on here since seeing it says it all.

clearly bullshit given the style of our 'keeper top.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Will be keeping last years blue and white stripes and the Amex commemorative one as my home kits for a while. None of this stick on logo rubbish.

However, the away kit does tempt me as I love red and black stripes. Dilema !

My red and black stripes will definitely be arriving sans logo.
