I take offence at how shit they are and how their voice makes me want to scream, in much the way they sing.

Offensive? No. Derivative, dull, pandering and a terrible song? Definitely.

Madonna was doing this shit. Queen was doing this, Lady Gaga.

It’s a gimmick. Not offensive, just incredibly shit.

Not sure what the fuss is about. This is more than 10 years old, and didn’t raise any eyebrows then.

In the 70s there were parents complaining about Bowie’s androgyny. Now he’s a dad-rock fave. I’m not sure the world has ever been quite how the OP pictures it.

For example I grew up reading Dr Seuss books and I now identify as a cat in a hat.
Having eaten some Waitrose Sticky Toffee Pudding for lunch, I now identify as a family of 4.

Lovely interview with Sam Smith on the One Show this evening, he talked about his love of fishing and how if he wasn't one of the biggest artists on the planet he would love to be a fisherthem.

Sam Smith 'Heartbroken'

So sad to hear of last nights events, they are one of the best live acts in the country and I wish them a speedy recovery.

The only positive to come out of this is their last song was 'Way to good at Goodbyes'.

I like the fuss though. When I was a youth you had to dye your hair a strange colour to infuriate and confuse the oldies….now you just have to change your pronoun. It’s true, kids have it too easy these days.

I do remember in the eighties you could still find the occasional residual punk, plus goths and then metal heads all wearing their uniform of long hair, jeans, band t-shirt and black leather jacket.

It was incredible when Nirvana and Britpop both appeared and split the crowd into Ben Sherman shirts or charity shop threads. Neither of which hugely upset parents, though the Nirvana fans would occasionally dye their hair.

I think the pronoun thing shows how much of our discourse has moved online and become virtual. Not unexpected, but a bit of a shame. (he types on an online forum without the slightest hint of irony)
