I know I'm gonna regret buying this as I'm sure it's gonna sound exactly like the Eagles circa 1980, but it has to be done as I've always been a big Eagles fan even if I think they should have jacked it in years ago!!

Are there albums that you buy on the back of having really liked previous ones even though you have the feeling they're gonna let you down??

I listened to it from start to finish today, and bar the odd dodgy song (as any album is likely to contain, particularly a 2 disc effort), I enjoyed it just as much as I had hoped I would.

I grew up listening to the Eagles, and I now hope that they'll do a tour on the back of this album so that I can actually have the chance to see them live (I couldn't get to any UK dates of their 2005 tour due to clashes with other commitments, but I'll certainly not miss any future opportunity).

The latest Happy Mondays album was exactly the same - had to buy it, but knew it would be tripe. I also had a funny feeling the third Streets album would be a let down, which it was.

PS - The Eagles album got 1 out of 5 in The Guardian, but I know you'll buy it all the same

I actually stopped myself buying it after listening to the 30 second snatches in itunes. Some of it sounded very syrupy and the rest just like a rehash of what they did well 30 years ago but with nothing different or new. Anyhoo going round to a friends this afternoon who did buy it so I'll have a proper listen and then make a decision. I really do WANT to like it I might add.

terribly sorry that I didnt check with the ..."lets see if there is another thread from 5 days ago about this"..facists first.

You really are very tiresome lately Doug

Give it a rest David, it was no slight on you. It was meant to help viewers of your thread to see the opinions of others.

I am very much an early eagles fan, a bit like an early Genesis fan, and certainly many of the tracks you could have imagined being on the first few albums. I actually thought Eagles went downhill when Walsh joined and Leadon left, a bit like the Gabriel/Collins argument, as I thought they tried to become more and more rock than country rock.

The last really good Eagles album I recon was One of These Nights, which was leadon's last. This one comes quite close to that IMHO.

I personally enjoyed it very much, although there is the odd dodgy track (as you'd find on any album, particularly a double-disc effort).

3.5 stars of out 5 for me.
