I stand to be corrected, however i would have thought ? Should the club fail to get Falmer, It would only be a question of time before some other development plan for the site would be proposed. Once a site is 'earmarked' some form of building development usually follows. Often sooner, rather than later. :albion:

One of the points why Falmer was chosen in the first place was that it had already been designated as available for development in the Brighton local plan; presumably because of the state of the site, its proximity to the Universities and the local housing estates therefore creating jobs etc.

The stadium hasn't created a precedent for developing the site; it was already there!

Yes please... even if we don't need it, slap one there anyway. What difference would a few more turds make round that area?

I would be in favour of the land fill site option, that way Falmer will be over-run with seagulls whatever the outcome, at least we won't leave crap all over the place.

From the Brighton & Hove Local Plan - adopted 2005.

In the event that the Community Stadium is not developed at Village Way North, the site will be allocated for High tech business or research related to the universities or for university related uses, except for student housing. Given the sensitivity of the site and its proximity to the adjacent Falmer conservation area, provided there are no suitable sites available within the existing university campuses, development for University purposes will be permitted.

This is the point innit. even if there wasn't a stadium the site is going to be developed anyway. Which rather blows a hole in at least 50% of the NIMBYs' arguments.

Oh sorry, I was assuming we are dealing with rational people here.

It can have Newhaven's incinerator, there is loads of room on the docks for a stadium, it even has an unused railway station.

This is where the Anti-falmer lot allways trip up. Its a well know fact that the site will be developed stadium or no stadium.

When asked what they would rather see built threre other than the Stadium, they allwas struggle to come up with a valid answer.

Which throws their argument out completely because you can bet that whatever was built there, instead of a stadium, would cause far more disruption to their lives. We will only be using the ground for first team games on maybe 30 days a year maximum, given a couple of good cup runs and an occasional friendly, although as a community stadium I would hope that there would be something going on to a lesser scale every day of the week.

I'd agree with that.

They know that eventually something will be built. But they would prefer that "something" isn't a football stadium.

You see its down to sheer snobbery. If the Council had proposed a rugby stadium/cricket ground or a horse jumping showground then it would have been built long ago.
