[Albion] new away fan ID/ticketing system

Shame they couldn't set up a collection point when one of my mates left his ticket at home by mistake, and then we had to contact the West Brom ticket office on the day to solve the issue, because the Brighton one was closed.

This easy and hassle free process of checks taking place at the away end for a small number of fans won’t stop people moaning because what they want to do is distribute tickets to their mates whenever they choose. Reading this thread makes me realize how widespread this practice must be.

I'm moaning because its not hassle free especially when people are coming from work, and were going to be tight getting there anyway. I don't distribute tickets despite your presumption that everyone complaining does.

I don’t know this specific case but I’ve had tickets not arrive on time, or bought very late, lost tickets, and on multiple times over the years (normally a couple of times a season) the club have bent over backwards to help, print duplicates. reassure me and my sons/group that we will still get to the match. And in every case with little fuss they have. They are , imo , a hard working team who want to ensure you get to watch the football you’ve paid for.

And that probably happens at many clubs, but how many of those clubs have 10 match bans for the purchaser when one off those people gets in trouble. Certainly puts you off buying tickets for guests when it suits the club

It also means those people are jumping the queue, which is unfair to people outside of Tier 1 who want to go. If you don't want to get tickets for friends when the club allow it then the only people losing out are you and your friends.

And allowing +4s for the Arsenal game is OK because?

Because everyone who normally goes to away games has had a chance to buy. If people had been getting tickets for friends and they didn't cause trouble the club probably wouldn't have done this. But they have so they did.

Lucky me, just had email informing I'd been randonly seletced to pick up my ticket from ground.

Please note that this dedicated collection point is separate from Brentford's ticket office, and will be staffed by members of the Albion Supporter Services team.
Tickets will be available to collect from 6pm on the day of the game. Only a limited number of ticket holders have been selected for collection, but we would still ask you to allow extra time for this process.
You can only collect your own ticket and you must show matching photo ID (eg passport or drivers' licence).

Looks like the Albion themselves are resourcing the collection point and process, which should mitigate concerns about having to join the home fan ticket office bunfight.

I wonder how mant tickets won't be collected... due to "last minute change of plans".

Given how far in advance these tickets were purchased it is not unreasonable to say quite a lot. 5%?

By comparison how many threads do we have on here with someone is selling concert or theatre tickets due to a change in circumstances. That's life.

Have you read your comment?
People who had actually attended Falmer can buy tickets for Man City away( and loads of other games) are excluded from the Arsenal sale because people have been buying tickets for other people to boost their own points total? But purchase history is excluded from Arsenal away.

But season ticket holders can buy tickets for people with no history who fancy a day out.

How does that work

Is it only people in tier one for away tickets that are subject to this? I’ll take my turn in the randomiser but surely there’s only a few thousand of us in that tier so I guess it’ll happen a few times a season that I’ll have to collect my ticket.

Edit: In case anyone was wondering if you had to take your actual ID, I’ve just heard back from supporter services and a screenshot of your driving license or passport will suffice as long as it’s a clear photo.

Fans who are forced to collect tickets should be rewarded by the club imo - maybe a voucher for a few quid off food/drink at The Amex.

That is a great idea. Would cost the club next to nothing but would acknowledge the slight aggravation this has caused.

That was the case before the pandemic, I agree, but last season they made the decision to close the ticket office on saturdays for whatever reason, and this situation came up a few times last year. To be fair it was a bit sweeping, but it was a frustrating situation, as they have been helpful before, but this specific time it was not. To be fair the few people from the club who were present were much more helpful than West Brom, who just stonewalled us until eventually they allowed us the ticket, after bank statements etc.

Mountain out of a molehill, you'd think some people had been called up to do national service. If they just do this for the few games that sell out to the top points tiers it makes perfect sense. A minor ballache at most, especially if you can pick up next to the away turnstile.

You will have to take that up with the club.
