They are only selling places for the Birmingham game to see how it goes - I am interested in doing this for my little girl for a birthday treat instead of having a party but i just enquired for the Bristol game which is the Tuesday before her birthday - but they said they are only testing the water with this one to see how it goes???

As it happens I have decided to reserve the mascot away for the Blackburn game at Christmas instead as one it's free apart from just buying the away kit and we were going to go to the match anyway and even better the whole family can go and see her lead the Albion out - even my sis in law who is a Blackburn fan so there will be family both ends of the stadium!!!!

It's good that there are now three places available from GG - it seems a shame to me that anyone can just pay now and you don't necessarily have to be an Albion fan??

Tony Bloom lives in Australia for three months of the year and has numerous business interests. The truth of the matter is neither of us know EXACTLY how much involvement he has with the day-to-day running of BHAFC, but I wouldn't mind betting it's not as much as some owners do. He has quite a large team of people around him so I don't see that as a problem, but I think it's unfair to say he's pulling the strings and Barber is just the puppet.

As for your second point, fair enough, but I was talking about not blaming the employer when things go wrong on the pitch. So Gus or Harley, it doesn't matter who I shout at, the point is I wouldn't criticise Bloom. Just as I'm not doing for the relatively small money-making schemes we're seeing crop up around the Albion right now.

I just think it's wrong for you to be SO hard on Barber yet absolve ANY blame on Bloom. He's more linked than that. He knows what he was getting with Barber, he's not stupid.

The very efficient Wayne Pottbury has clarified the remaining three spaces will go two to Gully's Gang and one to Albion in the Community.

Seems fair enough to me.

This is clearly very good... and if they get the full package (tickets, kit, meal etc...) then it is a FANTASTIC offer by the club... and will be a great experience for 60 families every season.

If people want to buy that for £250 - and the package doesn't seem particularly expensive if you can make use of the 3 tickets/meals, then good luck to you.

Not sure about 11 mascots for EVERY game... but hey ho... that seems to be the way we are heading - it won't have much effect on me as a supporter - and will be a great experience for lots of lucky kids.

Seems to me that pretty much everyone is a WINNER :thumbsup:

How do you know he is? I think when you employ somebody with such experience to a prominent role like CEO of a football club you allow them room to make their own decisions, implement their strategy and effectively run things without being hampered by instructions from the board 24/7. You then judge that man after a set period. Basically, what I'm saying is I don't think it's unrealistic that Barber has been given, for example, a year to do what he wants (within reason) and only then will we find out whether Tony rates him. After all, if you'd asked this question a year ago you'd have presumably been claiming that Bloom was a fan of Ken Brown's work, but history has shown us that wasn't the case.

Chapman was a Knight signing though, was he not?

Barber is Bloom's man.

Why on EARTH would any pay for this who isn't an Albion fan? And anyway, don't you think, even if they weren't a fan BEFORE, they would be AFTER?

Bloom and Barber (back) IN?

Fascinating catching up with this thread having been out for a while. After the initial outrage, it's interesting to see how the information that wasn't readily available (or obvious) is drip-fed through after the initial announcement. Bit of work needed on the communications side, maybe?

Seems like a good idea, but I wonder if, for each game the club will actually get eight willing 'customers'. Taking this thread as a straw poll (stupid, I know...), I think that'll be a no. I can see a lot more than three GG members being used towards the end of the season.

I was thinking that maybe corporate clients would buy the mascot places for kids or prizes or something but I suppose if you have a good day out they might change from supporting manure after visiting the Amex which I guess is good x

This.

I also think it is difficult for them to say let's just trial it for the Birmingham game because invariably you want to pick a game near a birthday or special family day. If you were picking for the whole season I reckon take up would be average, maybe three or four a game? But just doing it for one game is not really a trial.

If it opens more for Gully's Gang or AITC then that can only be a good thing. But I reckon they will ditch it back to a smaller number after a while.

We're not a small club anymore , 3 of the mascots get a freebie and the club generates revenue from 8 others whose parents can afford it. If the trial is successful after the Birmingham game , parents will be keen to get their kids on TV for the Leeds game.

Edit:

And your maths is well shit.

Seats (2 adult and one child) = c£70.00
3 x 'meals' @ £6.50 = £19.50
Full child'skit = c£60.00

Cost of privilage = £100

According to the official site, the seats are in the west stand lower. Matchday prices are:

zone c (extreme ends)
Adults - £34
Under 18 - £17
Under 10 - £9

zone d (edge of penalty areas)
Adults - £37
Under 18 - £19
Under 10 - £10

zone e (central)
Adults - £39
No concessions

Since kids aged 11 and 12 can be mascots:

Zone c= £77 (under10 mascot)/£85 (11/12 year old mascots)
Zone d= £84/£93
zone e= £117

Junior shirt
29.99 (short sleeved)
32.99 (long sleeve)

Junior shorts
13.99

youth socks
8.99

Total cost:

£52.97 (short sleeved)
£55.97 (long sleeved)

Pie + soft drink £6
Pie + pint £7

Minimum:
Kit = 52.97
Meal x3 soft drink meal deals = 18
Tickets = 77

£149.97 (experience = £100.03)

Maximum
Kit = 55.97
Meal 1 soft drink, 2 pints = 20
Tickets = 117

£192.97 (experience = £57.03)

This doesn't factor in extra cost for administration, supervisor/organiser

As i said earlier, why is this any different from other aspects of life?

That's the whole point we were making - we all thought that this particular experience should be something that's protected from the 'other aspects of life' i.e. price increases.

Now we know 3 spaces are available to GG's and AITC, then all is well again.

Thread over for me. I think that's fair enough. Although it does mean the experience is not quite the same in that you don't have your photo taken on your own with the captains and the ref etc. But I guess it's a fair compromise, and it does mean you are now three times more likely to get picked than last season.

well incorrect confirmation then as it is 2 from gully's gang and 1 from aitc

Thoughts? Welcome to the world of Paul Barber. EVERYTHING is about generating revenue. In this case it is also to maximise the amount Michel's going to get out of the day, but I wouldn't be at all suprised if the days of the mascot being picked from a hat are over and it will become a package deal. I am completely against it.

Post number 2 in the thread. Well said, me.
