Hmm, prompt reply from the club (a Mr Wayne Potbury) says:

Thanks for your email..
We are selling eight player mascot opportunities for the Birmingham match only, at present.
Two player mascot opportunities will be selected from the Young Seagulls fan base who have asked to be drawn from a hat, as per all home games..

Hope this clarifies the situation

So is it two or three? And if two which player is going to walk out as Billy no Mates!!! :)

Feel free, but you're missing the real point.

Charging to be a mascot is a bit shit. However many other clubs do it.

In total agreement, regardless of where we are in the current scheme of things. So my son may never be a mascot in the draws from the Gully's gang mascots, but at least I know thats down to chance. With the fact that he will start to see more mascots on the pitch when he goes tpo games, the inevitable questions of "Dad, when will I be a mascot?" will come out. And having a strong will to say, "I'm sorry mate, your mum and I can't afford it" is going to sound a bit hollow isn't it.

Now that there are 3 free spaces i'm happy, i hate the idea that if you don't have money there is no chance of you becoming a mascot.

Now if parents want to spoil there kids i'm all for it, i don't care if they are ripped off, more fool them. still think it should be free for all, but meh.

Couldn't have worded it better. I'm still going to have to face those awkward questions

As i said earlier, why is this any different from other aspects of life?

I don't see how people can be unhappy about this, potentially 11 times more kids can be a mascot than has ever been the case before.

Certainly, only 1 is going to do the Captain bit, but I'm not sure most kids will care - they all get to go out on the Amex pitch with the players dressed in the stripes in front of 25,000 people. For any 6-12 year old, and their parents for that matter, that is going to be truly amazing.

Make sure your kid's name is in the hat and save £1 a week from when they're 6. If they're not lucky enough to get selected for a freebie then you'll have the money to pay for it when they're 11. Birthday money and help from grandparents and the like will make it obtainable for most who want to do it.

The very efficient Wayne Pottbury has clarified the remaining three spaces will go two to Gully's Gang and one to Albion in the Community.

Seems fair enough to me.

Yep. I'm happy enough with this compromise.

Problem is, too many people want something for nothing. As someone said earlier, 3 tickets, a full kit, 3 meals, and you're left paying about £50ish for the previlge, £150 for the main mascot.

Complete bargain IMO.

But no, people moan because one used to have it free, now 8 have to pay and 3 get it free...........

Very selfish world we live in..........

I don't see that it is that different actually. Tony Bloom employs Gus to run the team. If Gus remains in a job we can be confident that Bloom is happy with what he's doing. Paul Barber is employed to make money and run the show on a daily basis so that Bloom doesn't have to. If he remains then we can conclude Bloom is happy with his performance. I'm not sure what criticising players has got to do with it at all to be honest. I'm just saying that your anger as a fan doesn't automatically have to go to the top. If the checkout girl in Asda is rude to me, I don't call for the store manager to be sacked. It's the same here. I can be totally behind Tony Bloom and everything he wants to do without needing to like his choice of CEO or the decisions he makes. You seem to be saying I should either stop criticising Barber or start criticising Bloom, which I'd never do without being on a wind-up.

It's not the same. Bloom is FAR more linked to Barber than the head of Asda is to a checkout girl. They will be having meetings/communication about decisions pretty frequently. Your anger IS misdirected. You seem to see them as far, far more disconnected than they are.

You said that if Ryan Harley played shit and we lost 4-0 you'd complain about Gus, not Harley. History shows this not to always be the case. Sometimes you have complained about the player.

Sorry to piss on your little fire, but you're wrong. People were moaning when there had been NO MENTION of any free places (which should have been made clear in the release).

now that has been clarified, I've seen nothing but approval.

Edit:

And your maths is well shit.

Seats (2 adult and one child) = c£70.00
3 x 'meals' @ £6.50 = £19.50
Full child'skit = c£60.00

Cost of privilage = £100

Only issue i have is, this should be done on height and not age, i don't want some GIANT of a child walking out with Bridders, it makes it look gash.

Simple question, yes or no: Are you comfortable with the fact that Tony is (obviously) clearly comfortable with the decisions Paul Barber is making?

Similar criteria for Gully Girls then please. No cheerleader should be wider than Sarah Watts.
