What will happen first: paying to join the junior seagulls (which includes a chance of being a mascot) or charging for the role of mascot (for regular games)?

Not in favour personally this is a typical example of the reason football is becoming alienated from the fans everything is seen as making money. I know the arguement is there that we need to maximise revenue to compete with the big boys but as others have said this club prides itself on the community side and this goes against it. I am not against charging a nominal fee but it's not such a bargain My son and I are season ticket holders so don't need the free tickets in my eyes £50 with the free kit would be right.
In these time of financial greed I might think about charging the club for the right to my son as a mascot.

There must be some demand for these, despite the cost. I've just enquired about buying the package and all the spots are filled.

Aren't you too old to be mascot?

I understand the argument, and it is fair enough. But seriously, having Junior Seagulls members selected to be the mascot doesn't make us two bob, it makes us a community club which appreciates and values the support of all fans, including those from poorer backgrounds. The opportunity to be a mascot shouldn't be restricted to kids of well off parents. I was a mascot at Withdean once, it's something you can't describe. There's no chance I would have had that opportunity if the club wanted to charge for the honour. I think this is a big error in judgement, but it certainly isn't out of keeping with the type of business model Premier League clubs have.

How long until there is a subscription service for Brighton fans? Like One Hotspur, for example.

totally agree with your points.

for the testimonial i don't have a problem with it - unless as you suggest, it sets the wheels in motion

As soon as Kuiper's testimonial was announced I sent an email to the club asking whether my son could be a mascot for it, as he wants to be a goalkeeper. I didn't get a reply or any acknowledgement, and now they are all sold out.

My daughter was mascot at Withdean, completely made her a fan, but the club at the time were nearly broke...as a pensioner I gave them a £100 when they appealed for fans to help but please don't let us charge to be a mascot....that is so Crystal Palace,we will be charging to go to the fans forum next.

I love Michel, I'm more than happy for him to make as much money out of this game as possible but charging for the right to be a mascot is something I completely disagree with, and the overly commercial future of the club in general is a bit off putting in my opinion. It's the price of success and ambition, if you want to be a big club, it's just what you have to do. Doesn't mean you have to like it, though.

I agree with you BUT I think this is a one off as it's a testimonial and there are 11 mascots...

30 + 6 = 36, + 30 = 66, + 14 = 80, + 9 = 89, + 7 = 96

Perhaps the ticket price is confusing. It's a testimonial, and the two adult tickets are £15 each.

What about if the smart card was used to pay for the kit and the pie and drink mm? Then you've got to recalculate the whole thing -10% for anything smartcardable.. Shocking that you've not thought thos through Acker.

PS - Being pedantic it's a pie and soft drink for the kid which is £5 or, if the fatboy price rises stick about £5.50

Honestly Sheebo, I hope you're right. But I think this is the sign of things to come. This sort of commercialisation is what Barber does, and what he's been appointed for. We'll have big name sponsors coming out of our arses before long, and I would NOT be suprised if our loyalty scheme is replaced/supplemented by a subscription service for fans.

Show some respect. Ernest is not a joke account, he is an absolute gentleman of the highest order.

If this is a one-off for FDM then I have no problem with it. The fact that it hasn't been floated for the Chelsea game suggests it is.

Doing this package for 2 mascots for every home game all season it would only gross them c.£10k for the season (before costs) which will make f*** all difference to anything in the overall scheme of things. I would very much hope that TB values the positive impact of the free Seagulls Club mascot system far more than such a trivial sum.

If they were that bothered then I would imagine there would be some local businesses which would be more than happy to be associated with sponsoring the free Seagulls Club mascot scheme for that kind of sum.
