I will be taking my son to his first ever game on Saturday, he's 7.
I've been waiting for this moment for a long time and I can't wait, it'll be a very poud moment and hopefully the start of something that will last a lifetime.
So, three requirements for Saturday:
Dry weather, a decent game and a win - get all three of those and I will be extremely happy! And so will he hopefully.

What are other people's memories of taking their child for the first time?

you cruel bastard.

take him to Chelsea or Arsenal....then he will be popular at school, see a side full of internationals, see a side WIN things, and sit in a 60,000+ seater stadium with real forks.

He will thank you for it in the end

Took my lad to see Albion at home for the 1st time last season when he was 9.

Its was when we lost 1-0 to.................. A NINE MAN WALSALL....

But funnily enough, seeing a game for the 1st time in the flesh was what did it for him. And we've been to nearly every home game and a good bunch of away games too.

He loves it !!!!

Took my Son to his first game when he was three two seasons ago and he loved it Been a season ticket holder ever since and he loves the day out, gets bored during the football but enjoys going to the pub pre-match running around before the match and having chips at half time. He doesn't understand much of it but it doesn't seem to bother him.

Does get a bit bored as the game goes on especially when it is cold or raining.

Hope that it will be a crap game, that way everything that comes after for him will be better. My son's first game was a terrible 0-0 with Portsmouth, I think that he stays a fan just on the off chance of seeing a worse game.

I took my eldest to his first game a few years ago. It rained. And we lost to QPR in the last minute. And as we trudged out of the ground the QPR fans were singing: Queers, queers what's the score? Queers what's the score? And my little lad said: "Daddy, what's a queer?". :(

Have some chocolate in reserve - to avoid the trip to the budger van whilst the game is on. Make sure he goes to the loo before the game - and again at half time. And make sure he is warm enough (and dry). All that done - it's a great thing.

took 'The Boy' to the Stockport match last season when he was 7 weeks old, i'm taking him to his fourth match this weekend. so far he's sat on my lap and just watched the crowd and the surroundings, good as gold and as quiet as a mouse.

I've just rung Esther Rantzen she's so pissed off with you.

My Son always leaves saying something like "Can we go and watch Tottenham / Man Utd / Chelsea etc" fewer people walking with us frown at this these days! Still make him go though, if I've suffered this he can as well, besides he'll love Falmer ...I've told him we're signing Lampard, Rooney etc when w eget the stadium by which time he'll have worked out the reality of all this!

took my boy (18mo) to the MK Dons game (his first) - he lasted until the 60th minute until he couldn't stand the cheating ref and lino anymore whereupon he lost the plot and the missus had to take him out. Got his name read out at half-time and everything \o/.

This way he'll understand disappointment, rejection and shit football early on, and things can only get better.
