Neo-Nazi group National Action facing UK ban.

A neo-Nazi group set to be banned in the UK has been described by the Home Secretary as "racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic".
National Action will this week become the first group engaged in extreme right-wing activities to be proscribed under British terrorism laws.
It means anyone who is a member or seeks support for the group faces arrest.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd said: "I am clear that the safety and security of our families, communities and country comes first.
"So today I am taking action to proscribe the neo-Nazi group National Action.
"This will mean that being a member of, or inviting support for, this organisation will be a criminal offence.
"National Action is a racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic organisation which stirs up hatred, glorifies violence and promotes a vile ideology, and I will not stand for it.
"It has absolutely no place in a Britain that works for everyone."
The ban comes into effect on Friday after an order was laid in Parliament on Monday, which will see the group outlawed under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Whatever I think about leave voters I don't think they are national socialists and I sincerely believe most people in Britain would steer well clear of this group without a ban. In fact I think banning them is the wrong move.

They look like a 'youth' version of the old NF. No intelligent arguments, just a ridiculous 'send 'em home' narrative that just does not wash with the British public anymore. Hate for hate's sake. Good riddance.
Maybe this is a move to pave the way for more bans on extremist groups that stir up racial and religious hate, and not just white groups? Know what I mean?

That already happens which is why a lot is being made of this being the first extreme right-wing group targeted.

I have a hunch that this might have come out of the back of / as a result of a certain, recent high-profile murder/ terrorism case.

I think I'm with [MENTION=33848]The Clamp[/MENTION] though. Not sure a ban is the answer.

It's a tricky balance. My first instinct is to say ignore them and don't give them oxygen but then if they are genuinely seen as a threat ignoring them could be a bad move. I certainly think they should be kept an eye on but I really think having government statements and news stories about them just fuels their fire and actually strengthens their resolve.

Having said that they do seem to merely be a pathetic group of knuckleheads who won't make a particularly meaningful impact. Though I said that about UKIP.

b) Force the protagonists to reorganise underground

Seems like Amber Rudd is describing a number of extremist/radical group's underlying agendas who are operating in the UK. Maybe National Action didn't dress up their hate to be palatable enough for her? I think the ban is a good move because it opens the door for other more 'intelligent' and better branded orgs to be questioned about their agendas. Everyone is entitled to an opinion etc, but a group that, as Amber says, "stirs up hatred" can be applied other groups that do just that. Maybe they have just got their branding right??

This is what the ban was mentioned in relation to on the news last night, as the group had been accused of celebrating the murder - although they denied this and said (if I read it correctly) that they only believe in 'legal violence'.

You sure have some learning to do when it comes to the far right, seems just about anyone who doesn't share your view fits in to that category. .

Yeah. That's pretty much what this legislation was brought in for to be fair, hence why there's a big song and dance about it being used for a far right group.

Interesting point on a broader level about the far-right being as intolerant and as wound up by the same things as muslim fundamentalists. The difference is the far-right aren't used to typecast all christians in the same way that fundamentalist muslims are used to typecast all muslims.
