I see so much hatred on this board and at Withdean (not usually at away games), directed towards
- The Chairman
- The Manager
- The players
- The coaching staff

I cannot quite understand why it has come to this, not complaining or disappointment, but pure hate, so I tried to sit down and work it out.

The reasons I see it are :
a) We had a period of success from 1999 to 2005. We attracted a number of new fans who had not been around before or during Gillingham and now cannot understand that Brighton at the moment are around the level they probably should be.

b) They don't understand we cannot attract top players, and for a manager to get the blend right for success at this level is very difficult and requires TIME.

c) They watch the endless diet of Premiership football and pass the expectation of these standards to our players and can't understand why they can't always put at 60 yard pass on a six pence.

Can anybody tell me why they HATE any of the above, or try and add to these thoughts...

Unhappy about the result today, but in recent years I expect this at Carlise (who rather like us are better than their league position suggests)

well said....but don't bracket all the fans into this group. I know hundreds of fans who have followed Albion for over 20 years and are fed up with the lack of progress and direction. For too long we have been told "wait for Falmer"
.....some are just fed up waiting and just want to vent their frustration.

Some fans (like me) just can't face the thought of "expecting to lose to Carlisle"

Agree with most of what you say, especially point a). Todays expectations have been increased because some fans have only experienced the last 7 years which have been relatively successful.

I can understand fans being unhappy with the lack of progress this season. I am, but as you say the hatred is difficult to understand. I love the Albion, but there are more important things in life.

Part of me thinks that it was okay to constantly inform the world that Withdean was a dump all the time the new stadium was being campaigned for. Problem is that now the lovelty has worn off, thousands of fans have come to that conclusion and can't face sitting in the rain with rubbish facilities any longer.

All the time the stadium was as risk there was an element of people coming along to want to support the club and the campaign itself gave a bit of a buzz around turning out.

Now that war is won and the football on offer isn't that attractive, it's very easy to come up with excuses not to go.

The last three seasons have been very disappointing and there is no sign of an improvement, so its easy not to attend matches, the longer you stay away the easier it gets.
When changes are made at the top and cash is available to buy decent players and the team play with style I will go through the turnstiles again, not before!

I was at the game today, and for the first 20 mins or so we played alright, but still there were people around me that moaned, at stupid little things.
I am quite a positive fan, and try to encourage etc, but by the end of the game I was moaning as well, to be honest i was f***ing furious at how we were playing and our attitude in general.
But how easily some fans moan amazies me, especially as i dont go to many games, so when i do go it's a special expereince and i try to get involved and encourage (except for the 2nd half today, when i was moaning like the best of them!), but some are so negative. So i can imagine how the atmosphere at withdean can be dire sometimes

good post

I don't get to see the Albion at all these days with living in Wales and the fact that I am disabled and even if I lived in Brighton would find it hard to attend games,so I have to rely on the SW commentary and this Board to get any idea as to how the Albion are playing and basically they were c**p yesterday but will that stop me supporting them NOT on your nelly.
When I was fit and able to get to the Goldstone and away games I watched some god awful games and wished I had not even gone to see them but the following week there I was in the pissing rain watching them again you see its in the job description if you are born and bred Brighton you watch and listen to them even if its S**T and hope it gets better and some times it does and I'm sure when and if the Falmer stadium comes things will get better (Hull City being the example)

Albion till I die ......but please build Falmer first
