As long as you're committed to being an Albion fan until the day you die and bringing up your offspring in the correct Seagull way, that's fine by me. Just make sure you know the difference between The Lanes and the North Laine.

Someone from Southend calling Brighton fans humble? Nah. There were issues approx 20 years ago with Southend.
If it is not a wind up then you have nothing to worry about. just remember this upward trajectory that Brighton is on and will at some point, hopefully in the distant future, go south for a bit. If you are prepared for that and stay loyal, then you will have literally earned your stripes. supporting a team who is doing well is easy, not so much when it’s going wrong, but that is when a club needs the true fans more.
I have always been proud to be a Brighton fan, but I had plastics asking me what was my “real” team was, as if only clubs in the premier league matter. Take the piss out of big six plastics, but also respect true football fans of lower league clubs, their club means as much to them as any fans of premier league teams.

chosing Brighton is hardly a bandwagon. i'd stop being so fussed what the friend thinks, why care? just enjoy following the mighty Albion, its an interesting ride.

I was curious as well and am soft hearted, so I found this in a 2011 article by The Argus:

Probably because they’d get wet , maybe because the players were half a mile from the stands, almost certainly because we didn’t have pretty, almost sexy multi million pound players in those days, but definitely because Richie Reynolds wasn’t the ‘face’ and haircut (jealous, yes I am) of Seagulls TV. Seagulls TV didn’t exist at The Withdean. There was a TV a JVC in the Legends Lounge. JCL’s apparently leave early, whatever the score, don’t know the words to Sussex By The Sea and most disgracefully use the public transport system and don’t join in that wonderful pastime of annoying the residents of Coldean. However these newbie’s and their season tickets and corporate memberships have helped put the club in the wonderful financial position it finds itself in today."

My son was born in Vancouver. He's been watching the Albion with me since he was 4. He's seen us play away at around 50 different stadia.
And unlike me, he's never been a Leeds fan

idk i was having a debate with him. he said we should not complain that our players are being taken by the big 6 and we should spend 100-200 mil in transfer windows... i told him we are brighton and we have come from humble beginnings, not a big 6 money printing machine. and then he called me that, i got a bit insecure and that's how this thread got started i guess
Used mostly in jest, for example someone claiming the "pies were decent away at Bury last week" gets a reply of "JCL: they were much better when we played up there in 1970 in division 3".

and yes, if u guys will have me, i will support this club forever, wherever we are. i still remember the days in school where we lost home 5-0 to bournemouth and 2-0 to cardiff in short space of time and after those games my mates were trolling me about it, and i shrugged them off - that's when i knew this club is for me

Of course you can, fool. Just don't be a fan because we are doing well. Come to the Amex, become part of it, feel the connection. Be with us through the bad times and good. When you do, you will know, and you won't need to question yourself!
Don't worry about it. If you've spent any time reading NSC you will know that there is plenty of piss-taking on here but anyone who wants to be part of the fan base, and part of the fun on here, can be, and not being 'local' is irrelevant. As long as you don't behave like a twat, in which case the full weight of our vituperation will lower itself on top of you like a heavy and unpleasant thing.
In the late 90s, a 14 year old lad living near Chester became captivated by the way the fan base was fighting to save the club and, with no connection to Brighton, started following us, and still does so today.
It is what it is.
