Naylor writes about Barnes in today's argus, about how worrying it is that he is cupping his ears in front of the home fans.

I know we have had threads on this, but given his record of 36 goals in 96 games, from a wide position and at 22 years old, its ridiculous that this fella may be contemplating leaving the club.

Naylor finishes with "his Amex detractors are a small minority but they are evidently a noise minority. They really should get off his back"

I know Naylor has a bad rep on here but he speaks a lot of sense.

Spot on. Good player, much appreciated by most of the Albion support.

I agree people should lay off him.

I would say in my opinion though him cupping his ears like that really isn't helping the situation, I completely understand him wanting to make his point but the only way to do that to the morons that slate him is to do his talking on the pitch. Gestures like that are like a red rag to a bull with those people

Don't know what the lad has done to attract this negative attention TBH, other than having a languid style, and lacking the first touch of some of his tippy tappy flairniac peers.

He probably started off thinking I have a thick skin and goals will get these few numpties off my back. Now he's probably wondering exactly what he has to do. I sit in front of one bloke who gives him stick for 90minutes regardless.

Ashley is 22, has the strikers eye for getting into decent finishing positions and puts enough away. If anything I would have thought CMS might have picked up a bit more grief this season (but then he runs and runs and runs and runs).

CMS (28) = £2.5m = 11 goals = ADULATION
Barnes (22) = £70k = 12 goals = ABUSE

What. The. f***

TBH this subject has been done to death. No BHA player deserves constant abuse when they are playing. I used to inwardly groan when OGH came on during his last couple of seasons with the club but I would never openly abuse him whilst he was doing his best. Leave team selection to the manager.

Ashley Barnes scoring record speaks for itself. Gus obviously see's him as a vital part in the Albion machine. Many players are being rotated at the moment. Barnes isn't one of them.

Naylor has called this one spot on - Even if chances are, he got most of his 'material' from this site?!......

Whilst I agree with Naylor, he is perpetuating the problem by making it an issue again. He seems to have a habit of doing this.

Ashley is a great player and will only get better...cheer him on...he is a cog in the machine and a vital one at that...I have only shouted abuse at one player in an Albion shirt...and he was a loanee....no not Barndoor Billy. Ashley my have a languid style....but so did Murray....ignore the people who boo Ash,most of us appreciate your play.

I see the problem and here is my take on it.

The majority of football fans are just that football fans, have spent there life watching football and not playing it to a decent standard. This means that the majority of fans "ball watch" they follow the ball over the park with there eyes and not look at the bigger picture, and the thing with Barnes is he is not technically great, so more often than not his 1st touch is lets say not great caussing him to be put under pressure a lot and then a mistake. What they dont see is his work rate off the ball, his committment, his tracking of players, his energy of being box to box. as they dont see that, they just judge him on his 1st touch and more often than not wayard shooting. hence the negative shouting and moaning. I like Barnes and in my opinion justifes his starting spot week in, week out. The only gripe I have is not with him is with Gus, he never comes off the bench even when he is not playing well, they seem to change the style of play to suit him staying on, which in some instances seems strange to me? BUt for me, he is a deserving memebr of the starting 11 as it stands. Keep it up barnesy and dont listen to the shit from a minortity.

just my take on it for what its worth.

We need to start chanting his name big time, 'One Ashley Barnes' would do, doesn't have to be an original witty cover, just need to show him some vocal love at the up and coming important home games.

I'm with Stumpy Tim on this, I don't boo any players, but CMS can be having a stinker and draws gasps of horror when he is rightly subbed, where as Barnes can score a match winning brace and still get stick. It is unfathomable why this is happening.

Because of his 'style' of play he will attract criticism wherever he plays. As said he is still young and will learn to rise above the 'boo boys'. As for Naylor, he does seem to struggle for stories outside the press conferences these days. The Albion have tightened up the loose lips from days of old!!

Imagine if this was the situation at your work. A new guy arrives in your department. Your already doing a brilliant job. This new guy comes in, earns more money than you, and everyone is kissing his arse. Your doing the same or slightly better job than he is, you earn less and some people in the company are publicly putting you down. In the end you would feel like buggering off.

I have never put AB down once and never will. I hope we get the new Ashley Barnes song going on Tuesday again, because he deserves it. I certainly don't want AB leaving for another club. Some people have short memories. Look at the amount of goals he scored for us last season.

Thought the celebration was appropriate & reasonable tbh & made us all laugh. He's been doing his talking on the pitch for a long time, so frankly is well justified in having a little pop back ???
