Yeah, one point behind with 22 games to go... clearly no chance of staying upKind of feels like they're preparing for life in the championship though.
Sometimes it just doesn't work out at a club and it doesn't have to be a case of "failing to step up"... sometimes its just the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time.Bizarre appointment. Failed big time at Stoke, ok probably mitigating circumstances as going to a newly relegated from the PL club is always difficult, but if he failed to step up from Luton to Stoke, how can he be expected to step up from Luton to Soton?

Wow, I entirely agree! Damn.Sometimes it just doesn't work out at a club and it doesn't have to be a case of "failing to step up"... sometimes its just the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Yep, agreed here too. The problem for NJ is that you only get one of those excuses on your CV unless you are very, very experienced. He would need this to work out with Southampton otherwise he’s finished as anything other than a lower league journeyman manager.Wow, I entirely agree! Damn.
Sometimes just chance how things work out, wrong manager, wrong faces in dressing room, not enough money, too much money, wrong opponent at the wrong time, wrong referee, etc etc etc. A very big element of luck can affect all sorts of stuff.
Some on here would have , better to have a known name who understands English football than some Johnny ForeignerAre Saints in financial trouble that they are needing to go cheap…. Would we have been happy after Potter left to have approached Mr Jones ?
He would of learned from his Stoke experience, everyone seems to struggle at Stoke.Bizarre appointment. I guess that's why the Austrian was sackedYeah, one point behind with 22 games to go... clearly no chance of staying up
Reminds me of an incident back in the day (90s maybe?) when Southampton appointed a new manager from a lower division - can't remember the bloke's name, sorry. Anyway, at the time Southampton had a youngish player who'd got a couple of England caps - can't remember who that was either ...........................Well he died on his arse when he stepped up to manage a (newly relegated) Stoke didn't he. I think he'll have his work cut out in a PL dressing room where there will be an element of "Nathan who ?", not unlike at Chelsea now, but lower down the scale.
