Napoli 5 Palermo 0. No goals or assists for WBG in this Coppa Italia match, but a full 90 minutes under the belt. Be Interesting to see if he keeps his place for the next league match now the manager has seen WBG strut his stuff

But very nearly though 🤔

My annoyance with this sale, as well as my arguments against it (why spend massiv amount of money on wingers if you don't have someone to pass them ball) has not exactly been eased by failing to break down Arsenal, Ipswich and Nottingham defences. The Manchester United game remains our best performance and since then we've struggled to get anything out of our wingers. But hopefully now, with Jack moving to midfield, we won't miss Billy as much.

Came on in the 91st minute in Napoli’s 3.1 win against Como - McTominay and Lukaku both scoring.

Can’t see him getting many minutes in the games that matter with the midfielders there ahead of him.
Your suspicions pretty much confirmed by this piece; seems WBG is set for a season of bench warming and occasional cameos while McTominay is ‘the man’. ☹️

Indeed.

His playing time this season is detailed below. He is going to need a series of injuries to his fellow Napoli midfielders to beat his EPL minutes tally prior to Christmas.

EPL minutes - ‘98
Serie A minutes - ‘21

Why did Conte want him, to hold his espresso? It’l looking like the Wee Lad has been badly advised.

He has gone from ‘possible bench player’ to ‘permanent bench player’ and with injuries to O’Riley and Milner, he’d have got a lot more minutes here.

I’m feeling a lot better about his fee.

You're feeling a lot better about his fee because he would have got a lot of minutes here?

But yeah they have a packed midfield. Foluronsho who played for Italy in the Euros this summer has made 17 minutes so far this season, and both of their starting midfielders from when they won Serie A two years ago are still with the club and has played a lot better than they did last season.

Playing less than in Brighton was always expected. They are bigger and better and imho we don't have one single player who would get into their starting lineup. Playing as little as he has so far probably wasn't anyones idea though.

That said, still early. Its not easy to break into a team that keeps winning and winning but if they have a dip in form he should see more gametime.

Mitoma and Pedro would get in their team.

Mitoma would get into their team ahead of Kvaratskhelia? The guy who was the Serie A MVP and top assister when they won the league? Ok.

And Joao Pedro is of course getting in ahead of Lukaku, currently on 3 goals and 5 assists after 5 games? Maybe. It would be a decent battle though.

Not disagreeing with that bit.

But remarkable that in Aug/Sept circa 90% of nsc thought it unlikely Gilmour would willingly opt for Napoli over us.

Is that what we said? I thought we were just surprised that we apparently wanted to keep him, but were willing to let him go so cheap

Until it became known thanks to genuine ITK’s that Gilmour had long set his stool out for Napoli, this place was awash with:
- a baseless yarn …. nasty Hurzeler/Barber forcing him out.
- by implication and explicit … why on earth would BG want to go to Napoli, play under Conte, etc. Holding their noses up at a huge club in a beautiful part of the world. I think people got ahead of themselves.

Quote a few of those. A Brighton fan talking down Napoli would be embarrassing

Mitty could play on the other side but also better than kvaratskheila for me. Pedro better than Lukaku. Bart nah not yet, been very average this season for us.
