As I’ve put on other chat on wbg , Man Utd have turned down £40m for Scott McTominay, so anything less than this means we’ve been done (only thing better by McT is that he does score goals)

That “only” thing is almost priceless in the PL. If only Lallana and Gilmour had had goals in their Albion lockers rather than cringy daisy-cutters, we’d have finished higher.

McTominay’s goals come from when he plays further forward though, not playing as a sitting defensive midfielder.

Yet Emile Smith Rowe, 23-years-old, 115 games for Arsenal, a full England international and described by footballing guru Garth Crooks thus: "this boy is a Rolls Royce of a midfielder. I'm surprised he doesn't work in the fashion industry as this boy can thread the ball through the eye of a needle" is likely to move for around £30m.

£30m? He’s barely played in about 2 seasons. I’d be surprised if he got anywhere near that.

"Fulham’s bid worth up to £30m including add-ons was turned down by Arsenal earlier this week and Mikel Arteta is understood to want to keep Smith Rowe despite using him sparingly last season. Palace are believed to be preparing an offer of £35m including bonuses to try to tempt their London rivals into cashing in on the 23-year-old."

Torn in two on this. I find WBG immensely likeable, he has a great attitude and he fights for us. However @Weststander’s points are valid.

One where if he goes, I’ll wish him well, but will equally be happy if we keep him. At the age he is, there’s still plenty of scope for improvement and adding those all important finishes to an otherwise good all-round game.

PL 12 goals, 9 assists.

Have the club or nsc ever discussed this kid as an Albion target?

Mad. He’s injury prone and hasn’t played much in ages. If he’s going for that then Gilmour should be much more than £12m

I’m not sure Hurzeler will even have met him yet, never mind decided on whether he likes him or not, surely he’d want to watch him a bit before deciding on keeping him?

Have the players from the Euro’s even been back in training yet?

Anyway, I think it would be a shame if he left and the £12m would be surprisingly low. Would expect us to wring a bit more money out of his transfer.

WBG retuned to training a few days ago and has travelled to Japan (he’s behind Fabian in the Instagram Reel of the squad arriving in Japan below).

Billy Gilmour is no more than £30 million.

44 PL appearances for us, 0 goals, 3 assists. Underwhelming stats for any non-defensive centre midfielder. He hasn’t the pace, mobility or power of a destroyer. His contribution has to come from tangible creativity.
But he is a defensive centre midfielder. In nearly every game he has started for us he has been one of two pivotes in front of our back line.

Or more athletic/physical.

If you compare our midfield to the Villa’s and Newcastle, I always felt we were a little light.

Also Fulham.

That brief and wonderful spell of Caicedo, Mwepu and Mac, possibly the only PL period where no one bullied us.

It may not be so apparent on TV (that’s not a dig 😃) but although he was available deeper to receive possession, out of possession he always seemed further forward than a classic DM……. again IMO, which at times left us a little exposed.

Could’ve been the instruction as well of course…. 😃
