My take on the last few games

I think in his heart Gus knew that we were not good enough for the premiership and he has used the last few games to tinker with the side to see who is best moving forward.

He keeps Vicente and Navarro as his central pair and as we see he has not picked dunk and mattock, looking to bring back painter and dicker.

It is obvious he doesn't know what his best forward line is, CMs vokes Buckley lua lua noone are all chopped and changed Barnes seems to be the only constant.

After the derby game vicente and lua lua were outstanding and he hasn't started with them together again...why? It makes no sense.

I thought anything over 10 th would be marvellous and in our heart of hearts, fe from relegation would have been paramount...we flattered to deceive at times and it looks like we will miss out on playoffs...ah well.

Let's hope we have aright go at Birmingham and Watford...unless Gus is still not sure.

E-Abd is better than Dunk, Mattock was injured, leaving Painter as the only experienced left back. Apart from that I agree with the giste of your post. I predicted top ten at the start of the season so I'm happy overall with what we've achieved including a couple of cup runs against Prem clubs.

I've stated on another post I'm expecting a clear out in the summer, too many have been found out away from home recently and although Gus tinkers the players can't do what he asks so something got to give and I don't think it will be the manager.

So there had to be a reason for the god-awful team selection today. Now why doesn't that surprise me.

Id say now we have nothing to lose, give the fringe players a chance to prove themselves before the end of season cull. With the pressure off, it might reflect on the pitch.

Nail on head GW, but does anyone else think, like me, that the squad may be just a bit too big at the moment and this leads to him constantly tinkering with the line up. How often have we had a settled team this season? (making allowances for suspensions & injuries)

I think that if Tony Bloom believed that Gus was experimenting with the team when we were well placed in the play-offs and jeopardizing money spinning play-offs and potential promotion,he would be having strong words with Gus at the least.

Todays result would be a weekly ocurrance next season had we gone up, we ARE NOT ready. In a year we may be, in 2 we probably will be.It's a work in progress.

Strange how this mirrors last season, the difference being that last year we had it all sewn up.

We've struggled against top 6 sides whereas last season we struggled against the top 4 sides. Considering we're a whole division higher I would say that's progress.

I don't think any reasonable person would disagree with that.

On the point that GW makes, I was thinking similar thoughts. We've probably over achieved with the resources we have to hand. Yes, we have some very good players (Vicente, KLL, Bridders, etc), but also some players who are mid-level championship players at best. Yes, they'll have the occasional good games (even the odd blinder), but it's being able to perform at a certain level week-in week-out which is important. I feel we lack a genuine striker/hold-up player, and we are weak in goal. We've conceded too many goals from goal-keeping errors, and this then causes a lack of confidence from the defence.

However, I'm not unhappy at all with this season. I can see real progress being made and feel that next season we'll be a stronger team (and yes, Gus will still be here). I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of last season, next season. The development squad will continue to improve and maybe some of the more gifted may begin to force their way into the match-day squad an a regular basis.

We must have hit the record mis placed passes in a game today, reason being the team changes completely every week.

Bridcutt has been awful the last two months, and keeps his place. Poyet himself has destroyed cms confidence too. Forster caskey played some blinders and never made the squad again after a poor game against Newcastle!

What has vincelot done wrong to not play at left back?!

Oh and today dicker put in the worst performance I have seen in years!

I think most people will be more than happy with where we finish this season against expectation. Gus needs to find a way to get some attacking threat in the final 3rd and thankfully he has all summer to come up with the answer and the personnel. And also the technically gifted players to play in his system.
