My take on the Birchall thing.

I think it is very un-loyal of him to make/think about making a move away from his current team when they are in such dire circumstances. If he puts the effort in up until he goes then i will be happy but if he shows that he isnt interested in the next few games then he will receive a bollocking from me and im sure other fans.

Saying that it isnt certain he will leave so hopefully he can come out and say i am staying but or if he is going to leave i would rather him tell us now so we know which players are committed.

I still feel these 6 month contracts are so stupid. Obviously he couldn't be arsed to leave for America when the (MLS) season had finished so he came here to basically put himself in the shop window. I know he is a good player but he must be on good wages and the amount of time he has spent injured/unfit has been more than he has played, why couldn't we have bought a decent coach in with those wages?

As I said on the other thread. I can't believe how only 3 months ago he was basically begging us to sign him, now he's got a better offer, he's just going to leave the club he wanted to sign for in the shit.

I personally wouldnt blame him!!

he has been overlooked since he has been here & hasnt really had much of an opportunity to shine.

Lets not forget, he signed for Mickey having been with him in the past. His rasion detre for being here has now gone !!

I actually hope he does stay & fight as i believe we have a better chance of staying up with him in the side

He has a month left here and then who knows where as he has a 2 year deal waiting in LA for him. Can't really blame him.

He was quality last night. I agree with the sentiments, but if he does a job like that till the end of his contract, then we can't really complain.

Just read the article on the other thread and realise that this is slightly missing the point, as it means he wants out now rather than at the end of the season.

I don't see that he has any reason to be loyal. In real world terms he's basically just temping at a company that's struggling, given the offer of a longer term contract at a better employer then I'd be off too. Quite frankly he owes us nothing and quite rightly should be looking after himself.

he joined us in dire circumstances and he also insisted on playing for T&T straight away leaving us in the poop if i recall ! so no great new news that hes doing a runner now eh !

Can’t really blame him if he does go to LA Galaxy. He’s no more mercenary than many other Brighton players (or managers) past or present. There is a lot of money to be made for lower league players in MLS.

My daughter used to go to school with one of Birchall's cousins (cue ritual flaming!). He was offered a good deal in the states late last year, and his girl friend really wanted to go, but he decided to come to us. Fair play to the guy if he now decides that he has a better opportunity in the US.....clearly he is better than League 2, and I wouldn't blame him for one moment for taking the opportunity of playing for LA Galaxy.

Why would he be playing in League 2?

I wasn't there last night, but he has hardly set the world alight in all the games I have seen him play in.

Let him go to Galaxy and rot in the reserves, he'll come crawling back in 6 months when they realise he isn't good enough.

He left Carlisle earlier this year because he was going to joina team in the MLS but MA highjacked the move and he signed for us. It was inevitable that he would go to the MLS at some time.

Quote of the year on LA Galaxy forums...

"Famous for being the only white guy to play for T&T in decades. He scored a big goal that them into the last world cup. Much more excited about this than Vieri, and I think BBCnews in much more reliable than goal.com or mls rumours."

That's the same Vieri who scored 23 goals for Italy!

He was OK at Hereford last night, but wasn't pulling up any trees. The whole point of bringing in new players (and the point which MA and DK seem to have spent a lot of time missing) is to bring in players significantly better than you've already got.

Thinks...ummm...yes, we've seen plenty of those this season, haven't we! Birchall has, I admit, been better than some of them, but if he wants to go, good luck to him. Why shouldn't he go elsewhere for a better deal? And hopefully that gives us room to get in someone better.
