...to raise funds for kidney research.

Stu is a firefighter, and a great lad. He's donated his own kidney to save the life of his mate's younger brother, and is now undertaking this HERCULEAN challenge to raise money.

If anyone is feeling charitable this morning, click the link below. Cheers x

There was a big feature about him on the local TV news the other night. What a fantastic thing to sacrifice a kidney to save someone's life that wasn't even family. And then to follow it up with a challenge of that magnitude. Top top bloke! Donation made

Bugger - I missed that. Do you know if it was BBC or ITV?

and Thanks - he'll enjoy your 'Up the Albion' comment btw. Great lad, and wonderfully selfless he may be, but he is also a Pompey fan!

No worries

I think it was on South Today, one day early last week. They showed him training in the gym on a rowing machine and told the story of how they checked for a kidney match first within the family then further afield to friends and colleagues. I remember thinking at the time what a fantastic gesture it was.

Thanks for the tip. Never been & won't bother now, well not unless I've cycled from John O'Groats first or something :lolol:

Lands End really is rubbish. Let him know - it could save him the trip.

Thanks Bozza. I'll be sure to let him know. Would be a terrible let down after all that effort.

I've had a quick look on mappoint, and its exactly the same distance if he runs from Portsmouth to SCUNTHORPE instead, if you'd recommend that higher? The row back will be a bugger though.

Good stuff - I shall hopefully be on the waiting list for a new kidney in the next couple of weeks (anyone got a spare ?)

Re the trek, it'll be easy rowing back - it's all downhill !!

Best of luck with it. My brother-in-law is going through similar. His brother is a match, and they are going through the process at the moment. Seems to take ages. Months and months of tests, etc.

I've been to Scunthorpe. It's a bit rubbish. Try again.

It's taken about 6 months to get to this point - I had a small added complication, but once that's done I go to Guys to meet the surgeons and bingo 'm on the list - then could take 3 years to get one (althouigh I think it could happen at any time 1 week or 3 years - nothing like being on-edge all the time)
