I was thinking after many convo's who and where do we need to strengthen if we are to be in the higher division and suceed, below is my list with who they will replace.

Some of the players mentioned will require Big wages but no fee involved might make it possible.

If the style of football we play is going to work in the championship, were going to need that higher calibre player as far as im concerned and the slow players and dodgy ones will get punished alot more by the higher class attackers.

1. Joe Lewes GK - 1 million (Peterborough) Rave reviews for the ex England U21 lad, who attracted attention from a host of prem clubs, any lack of promotion from the borough this season and surely he will be on his way- Ankergren - shaky in league one, no way any higher thank you.

2. Ian Harte LB - £500k (Reading) former leeds man looks quality still, offers pace and steady football brain - Painter looks slow and methodical, will get caught too much higher up the pitch and be punished. Bench for Painter.

3. Lua Lua - Winger - Free (Newcastle) Poyet's made no secret about his feelings for the lad and will slot in on either wing or in a role behind the front 2 - Noone will bench warm if Lua Lua's back, but a great bench warmer to have.

4. Lee Bowyer - CM - Free (Birmingham) The tough tackling nutter Lee is soon to be available on a free with no doubt most of the championship on high alert for his services, will offer expiereince and grit that were currently missing - Sparrow - Not quite happened for him, looks good when fit, but ow many games has he been fit? Bench for the Sparrow..hopefully fit though.

5. Craig Mackael Smith - £1.5 Million - ST - (Peterborough) Skillful, fast, works and chases lost causes for 90 minutes and is proven at a higher level....15 last time out for Peterborough in the championship. Would partner Mr Murray up front -Ashley Barnes - is coming on leaps and bounds but for me the step up would be too much too soon.

6. Chris Wood - 300k - ST ( West Brom) Woods had to work hard at his game and the tough steam roller type target man is so much more than what we currently have, a fully fit wood is a player we will need.

I would LOVE those 6 to sign for us , but have a feeling it's going to be a couple of unknowns , a couple of centre backs near the end of their careers and maybe at most 2/3 of the above.

1 - Agree - Casper as a no.2

2 - No - Slower than Painter and too old

3 - Agree

4 - No chance - wages

5 - would be good, but will move to a top championship/Prem club i think

6 - Not convinced he's worth buying

Is Lee Bowyer a realistic target? I'm not quite convinced him and Gus would hit it off. Bowyer has just received his 100th yellow card. I'm not sure we would be looking at a player that will command high wages and might miss 1/5 of the season through suspension. Besides, he is 34 and presumably on a fair wage and will have offers aplenty.

Harte has another year. He will be 34 and £500k seems a fair amount for someone of that age.

The only way we will get LuaLua on a free is if Newcastle don't offer him a new deal on the same or improved terms. I'm not convinced we will be in the box seat for his signature, just because he has played here.

CM-S - One year left on his deal, come summertime, and has indicated he does not wish to sign a new deal. Massive competition for him.

George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith - would add a true touch of class and also maybe teach these stupid fucks at Peterboro that they can't keep shipping seventy or eighty goals a season and always rely on scoring huge humbers at the other end.

Lee Bowyer? Why would we want to have anything to do with that poison piece of trash?

Lulu still has another year on his contract at Newcastle.

Will be surprised if the ghost keeps the No.1 position. Leeds deemed him not up to Championship standard, so I think Gus will be looking for a quality keeper.

I don't think so. He was quoted saying that he had a year left, last year and was waiting to see what will happen.

Seems you want to raid Peterborough! Agree on a young keeper from league 1. If can't get Lewis then the lad from Hudds whose name begins with S?

LuaLua no brainer. Might see Noone and him wide with Bennett behind Murray / a striker with Barnes the super sub. Especially away.

Reckon realisticly we might only get one striker unless Murray goes, Wood more likely than Makail Smith but don't think there's anyone else in lower leagues than Champ to tempt. A veteran free transfer for me.

Bowyer and Harte no chance and no thanks respectively however good Harte is think he'll be expensive and deteriorate as must be old? Know he does well in a good team especially this Saturday but don't see it for some reason.

So LuaLua, Lewis(etc.) and Wood OR vet, plus think we'll get a CB and a player who can play either full back position. That's 5 and think reason says maybe 6 or 7 would only be a potential replacement for Bennett or Murray if either left for some reason.

Would've thought WBA would be looking at a fair bit more than 300k for Wood!

LuaLua and CMS would be immense. IF we get to the Champs I think the current squad plus them two would comfortably stay up!

I'll second Boyd from Peterborough, outstanding turn and chip against the bar in the game at Withdean
However I thought Makail smith looked pretty ordinary against us.
I'd like Baker from Coventry. Not sure if he's been playing much for them and how about that really short guy who plays for Orient?
