Sold our segment of their business at the weekend to a company called:

ATOS Origin

They do big retail / airline retail terminals contracts, software outsourcing etc similar to us.

Anybody dealt with or heard of them before ?

Views always welcome as you never know with by-outs what's round the corner but I remain positive. Could have been a yank outfit called Computer Sciences which looked dodgy.

They appear to be a French outfit. There are quite a few newswire stories kicking about, but the one below looks like you may not be out of the woods yet! They appear to employ just over 1,000 in the UK, based in Whyteleaf, Surrey. If you want any more info, PM me and I'll see what I can find on the parent co.

Atos to sell 500 mln eur worth of SchlumbergerSema assets in 12-18 mths UPDATE
AFX Europe Focus: 22 September 2003
[What follows is the full text of the news story.]

(Updating with further details) PARIS (AFX) - Atos Origin chief executive Bernard Bourigeaud said the company plans to sell around 500 mln eur of the new entity formed after the purchase of IT operations from Schlumberger in 12-18 months. Atos said this morning it has agreed to buy the majority of Schlumberger's IT unit, SchlumbergerSema, in a cash and share deal valued at 1.287 bln eur. Under the terms of the deal, Schlumberger will receive 19.3 mln Atos shares representing 28.9 pct of the group's capital, together with 400 mln eur in cash. Atos said it intends to divest a number of non-strategic assets during 2004. Schlumberger, meanwhile, said it is considering the sale or IPO of activities including smart cards, point-of-sale terminals, payment systems, eCity terminals and payphones. Schlumberger also said it has changed the name of its Smart Cards and Terminals unit to Axalto. "This name change will bring more visibility to Axalto and reinforce its image as a leading smart card player in a rapidly evolving market," it said. paris@afxnews.com dl/lwl/vs

Worries me a bit but I'm covered well on redundancy unless I sign a new contract which ain't gonna happen.

Haven't you been there for about 3 weeks or so?

(Temping, as you did before, does not really count)

They looked at me for 2 weeks and decided to snap me up.

once I've served a month I start permanantly, with a healthy pay packet and I've wangled it as a graduate job, (not many grads there from below the top 5 uni's) in other words after 2 years, if I impress I become an Associate.

Hasn't done the ego any harm!!!

:lolol:

Apologies - my definition of a company treating me 'really well' extends beyond them giving me a job.

Each to their own though.

I actually work in the offices of Schlumberger SEMA in Sydney - they're a global partner of ours & were kind enough to give me a home :O)

Computer Science Corporation (CSC) are massive, and an excellent company to work for. Strangely, I'm also meeting them today in Canberra

Have heard of them. Famous for cost savings and trimming staff numbers. Looking for positive growth and would welcome all those seeking voluntary redundancy.

Otherwise they are ok! :lolol:

yeah CSC make a killing, they own all the equipment at Morgan.

Bozza in my short career I've worked for a few companies (well about 4-5) and after being treated like a **** in my last job at LLoyd's it is great to be back at an American company, they might be fake and OTT but I like that personal touch and they are quick to reward good work. At the Lloyd's of London (a british institution:rolleyes: ) I was never commended on my work and constantly told off for not having my top button done up...I don't even have to wear a tie now.

I was Railway then Sema took over - good empoyer, prepared to reward on performance but bought an American Telecom company and went tits up.

Schlumberger took over, another very good employer but have just given up as it didn't match their profile.

Haven't a clue on ATOS - new dawn, new beginning etc, they look progressive so who knows.

You don't even have to wear a tie now - you're right that means you are working for a top-class organisation!

As today I went to work in a Henri Lloyd shirt, Stone Island sweater and jeans it must make my company absolutely world class! I'll remember to tell everyone tomorrow - they will be pleased.

(Unless, of course, they are shallow enough to want something beyond a casual dress policy and a beer fridge they can access at will.)

It's the little things that count. I go to any company to do a job, what the company can offer me beyond that is important, and I think dress policy is important....obviously not as important as being the 2nd largest Investment bank in the world, one of the top wage payers in the banking world and superb for benefits....obviously!!
