Mutant Fish
We currently have 4 goldfish which live in tanks on our kitchen window sill. I would call them pets but, to be honest, we've never really been close. In fact none of the fish even have names. You may call it bad parenting, but they are simply referenced as "The Fish" in our household.
The past couple of years have taken their toll on two of the fish. For the purpose of this thread I'll call them Fish #1 and Fish #2. Due to a series of fungal growths sprouting out of Fish #1 and Fish #2 they were "quarantined" to another tank to prevent cross contamination with fishes #3 and #4, much to their relief, I expect. We added some anti-fungal tablets to the water but I guess the damage was done.
Fishes #3 & #4 seem to be enjoying their more spacious tank, in the absence of their former freaky fish friends, but fishes #1 and #2 continue to morph into some kind of fishy mush. Fish #1 has now developed a lump under his EYE, thus pushing his eyeball right out on a stork, which is making him look like a hammerhead goldfish. Even Fish #2 seems to be looking for ways to escape the tank now!
My dilemma is this. With this all going on in my kitchen it puts me off my shreddies. Surely Fishes #1 and #2 must be experiencing some sort of discomfort, but is there any humane way to end it for them? Is fish euthanasia legal in the UK?
