OK, neomedieval. The mighty Heimatærde.

Here is the singer, Ash von Megalon.

The drummer is called 'Brother Henry of Kent'.

I wonder if he lives near me?

Do you like a bit of Lebrock and The Midnight? We have tickets to see the latter (twice postponed due to you know what)

I know The Midnight . And I like. That’ll be a great gig. Where is it?
Not Synthwave but I booked my first gig for ages recently. Nordic Giants, who are a bit like a slightly more industrial Sigur Ros. Really looking forward to that.
And I’ll check more Lebrock out too.

Have you come across the mighty Corvus Corax H? First shazamed them in a gloomy castle in Austria and am partial to a bit of their crazy proto-bagpipes when the mood takes me. They make a glorious racket!

I like that Corvus Corax:thumbsup: Much better than that dressed up rock nonsense HWT posted :p But fair play to him, neo medieval is another new one on me, and it got us to Corvus Corax.

I've seen this pair a few times and have a couple of their CD's. They do brilliant work telling the history of European music from medieval times.

I also have an album by Philip Martin called, Hurdy-Gurdy Mandrohne.
Just as the name suggests, it's all hurdy gurdy, which is an instrument that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, just like pipes in all their forms. I think I'm attracted to any drone instrument really.

There are two categories:

Music you like, and music you don't like.

Otherwise you end up sounding like Lauren Laverne.

Agreed. Music doesn't need to live in a box really.

It does fascinate me though. EDM in particular does seem to love sub genres and I'm certain I haven't heard of half of them, let alone be able to define them.

I thought I was quite up on music sub genres, but this is a new one to me. Turns out it's actually not new at all.

Amapiano.

Answer without cheating and leave a next one if you can.

Is this South African dance / house, vocal and slightly stripped back? I'm sure Jamz Supernova played a lot of it on one of her first few R6 shows on Saturday lunchtimes.

I do tend to agree with Is it PotG? on this as well though.

Yacht Rock was a new one for me , then there was a BBC 4 prog about it iirc.

I also fully agree with PotG too.

A mate at work a while back told me about this in response to my usual reflex protestations when Bon Jovi came on the radio. It was a new one on me, but I could instantly picture the type of music that fits it.

He thinks it's a great laugh to keep reminding me of it.

Afrobeat is the one that puzzles me.

It's everywhere now, but I don't know how they got away with calling this auto tuned to the hilt stuff a name that already existed.

Fela and Tony Allen had already coined the term years ago and the likes of Lagbaja and Fela's sons developed it without losing sight of it. Quite how the likes of Burna Boy and WizKid can really be called Afrobeat though is beyond me.

In a pile of football shirts
Grindcore.

An exceptionally heavy form of death metal with elements of hardcore punk in it too. One of the pioneers was a local band, Necrosanct, I believe this video was recorded in a disused tyre and exhaust place somewhere along Preston Road opposite the park.

Another new one on me. I'd heard of Death Metal and Screamo, but not Grindcore.

Are Grebo's still a thing I wonder?

The Midnight is Brixton academy. Just checked the tickets - May 7 2022.

In the same genre (which I adore) are Ollie Wride, and FM-84, here together!

The meeting is monumentally dull, so I took a listen. Yes, rather jolly. Unfortunately I can't think of 'bagpiping' withouth thinking about a particular episode of Jam....

This might help you re-think 'bagpiping'.

I love this track! Galician pipes and Mercedes Peon giving it plenty. One of my favourite albums.

For fans of the 'pipes, may I present ... Peatbog Faeries 'Scots On The Rocks' from their seminal album 'Croftwork'...

Sweatiest fun you can have with yer kilt on if they're ever round your way
