We have the older generation 35-dead, who think all modern music is just a noise and prefer Led Zep ( which some of their stuff was worse than noise) and the like

We have the 25-35 who think modern music is ok, or they are still trying to relive their yoof

0-25 we have the likes of Chappers and the like who think that anything written before 2004 is horse shit.

having been a member of this board fopr many years, I do agree with the post that NSC is definately splitting down certain lines

Yikes! I'm 34. Does this mean my "judge everything on its own merits" views are going to change when I get to my next birthday?

I'm 29 and my music tastes vary so much, anything from Frank Sinatra to the Kaiser Chiefs, although do prefer rock or at least guitar based music, will happily listen to most things, Dean Martin rules by the way.

what bollocks. I've been on NSC for a good few years and chappers is one of the few non music snobs on here. Very wide and varied taste.

I agree though there are some music snobs on here but I think your categories are rrrrrrrrrrubbish.

Old people who think new music is bad are the worst

Well, I'm 17 and I reckon that old music is much better than some of this modern shit.

The Jam, The Cure, The Specials, The Ramones, The Clash, The Smiths, Pulp and Blur are just a few of my favourite bands.

I just can't stand all these bands trying to copy The Libertines like Arctic Monkeys who are one of the most overrated bands ever. It's a shame that they get the limelight when there's some quality music around at the moment like The Ordinary Boys, The Cribs, Dead 60's and The Rifles.

But yeah I definately prefer music from the 70s/80s than anything written this decade (apart from OB's!)

...and hang on, I'm 35, saw Belle & Sebastian last night, and have The Frank and Walters, Aqualung, The Feeling and Feeder lined up for the next few weeks.

....and I think old music (specifically 60s music) is shit.

People have different opinions about music. Sometimes this is related to their age. They express these on NSC.

Umm, no offence D the G; but this doesn't seem to me like an astounding revelation!

And I'm 26 and like The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc....... and quite a bit of modern music, but not Middle of the Road James Blunt shite!!!!

Where does that leave me then ? I'm older than DTG but our tastes differ considerably. The bloke who's tastes are nearest to mine is Braders and he's in his teens !

Good music, is good music, from any age. I have just listened to Gorillaz, wish to buy Faithless, Best Of next month, and thoroughly enjoyed Cream at The Albert Hall last night.

Are you seeing Aqualung at the Duke Of Yorks?

I reckon that with very few exceptions there's no such thing as bad taste, just different taste. I don't much care for music of the 50s and 60s along with several current genres however I consider it ignorant to insult these types just because they don't suit my taste.

Sorry DTG but that's just nonsense. I'm older than you and there are plenty of modern performers whose music I like and whose albums I buy. My collection has items from every decade from the 1920s to the present day.

Good music is good music whenever it was recorded.
