I believe that is the site next to Southern Water. To the right off SW if you are facing the front entrance.

The link didn't seem to work...so here is the article.

Plans for multi-million pound archives office move step nearer
By Katya Mira
Falmer has been named as the perfect site for a new multi-million pound archives office.

Historians have been looking for a new location for the East Sussex Record Office, currently in the precincts of Lewes Castle, for years.

The building stores five miles of historical records dating back to 1101 and ancient artefacts such as a tooth belonging to William the Conqueror's daughter, much of which cannot be put on display to the public because of fire, safety and atmospheric regulations.

East Sussex County Council accepted new facilities were needed in 1996 and has been searching for a suitable spot ever since. It has just recommended Wollard's Field at Falmer, a six-acre site opposite Stanmer Park, which it owns.

It said the site would be easy for people to get to and have enough space to build the high-tech centre needed.

The authority has approached Brighton and Hove City Council about the proposals. It wants them to work together in a planning application and to bid for lottery cash to pay half the total - which could be between £14 million and £22 million.

The idea is for work to start in 2010 and be finished by 2011.

Brighton and Hove's cultural committee will discuss the ideas at a meeting on March 28.

Coun Sue John said: "A new building would offer much better public access to records and artefacts and enable us to much better look after and display this legacy.

"It could also have other partners such as the nearby universities which would be a tremendous resource for students and academics."

any chance of lobbying FDC to get a public enquiry into this?

Woollards Field is between the A270 Lewes Road and that bit of the railway line that runs adjacent to Lucraft Road, Moulsecoomb.

The main reason it's been undeveloped so far is that there is no road access to the site. It's very curious that it remains the property of East Sussex County Council, since it is almost a mile beyond the county boundary. Brighton & Hove City Council didn't take over ownership at the time of the 1997 local government reorganisation.

Getting planning permission for anything on that site could be problematic. At the moment it is used for recreation and it contains a balancing pond built to take rainwater that runs off the A27 Brighton Bypass.

Only if they lose the car park, which would not go down well or put buildings where the portacabins are now.

Ah! I was thinking about the other side. I can't imagine SW would lose the car park as it was well used, unless the company is due to be off shored!? ???
