Oh goody! I wonder if they'll call it the SDP - that worked well before...........................
Notice that they're planning the big putsch for after Brexit - presumably hoping that will enable them to skate round the fact that many of them owe their place in Parliament to voters in constituencies that voted decisively for Leave.

A half decent opposition should be miles ahead in any opinion poll at the moment. The fact that Labour is behind and losing ground shows how bad it really is as a creditable alternative government. The SDP formed as a result of a similar shift away from Labours Centre/left position . Whether any split actually happens remains to be seen, but should it happen and the moderate centre left Labour Mps join, it will see the Labour party out of office for at least 2 maybe 3 election cycles. I think the public are seeing through Momentum/Corbyn and just want a viable left leaning alternative to Tory centre/right policies without going full scale Socialist far left loonyism

What's fake about the political editor of a broadsheet newspaper publishing an article with real quotes and names?
Whether you want it to happen or not there will be a new party because the political landscape has changed irreparably because of Brexit. Tory and Labour as is cannot work together and that is crucial for the future now we have to sort out this shitstorm.

Let's hope so. Labour party should have split as soon as Corbyn and his hard left cronies highjacked the once decent labour party. Most labour MPS are not hard line lefty extremists and don't support Corbyn. Hopefully labour will split and the decent middle ground labour mps and members will form their own labour non extremist party.

Any breakaway left-leaning party should recruit Caroline Lucas as their first priority and court the Greens as their second priority. As shown by the current parties in the Brexit debacle, most of these self-serving intellectually-challenged ****s have no place in office.

Party looks increasingly like some kind of ghetto for failed ideas. 'You Dont Know What Youre Doing' springs to mind.

It would be good if they just started with a blank piece of paper, worked out where their moral compass is pointing, draft some policies and then brought in likeminded people from within and - crucially - outside politics.

Labour got 40% of the vote at the last General Election, one of the highest in our history. We'd have won if Scottish Labour hadn't been so useless (advocating people vote Tory against the SNP for instance)
We have the biggest membership of any party in Europe. If there is a new style SDP that will split the vote and keep the Tories in for ever in the first past the post system, which is what some of you want, isn't it? Just be honest and stop trying to be all 'moderate' and 'reasonable'

I do find the right wing bias on NSC amusing given that we have wiped the floor with the Tories in all the local seats and even my local East Worthing and Shoreham is now a marginal. I guess it's that old chestnut, 'age'. Never understood people becoming less radical as they get older, surely we should respond to what we see around us, and what I see is division, poverty, homelessness, complacency on one hand, misery on the other........

cant see it, they had opportunity to do so in past couple of years, and nothing. too scared, the first mention of SDP in comparison and the conspirators shrink away. the story is always to create a left of centre party, well there already is one - Liberals. if Labour MPs they were serious they would join them, but they dont because they want remain Labour.
I agree that if some MPs leave the Labour Party then its likley they would have been deselected anyway but I hope they stay as Labour is and always has been a broad grouping and all the more stronger for it, I also think the greens should be natural bed fellows and in Caroline Lucus they have somone who could do great things for this country if given the platform, I also think the SNP and Labour share many values and need to work together the price will be an indipendat Scotland but maybe one that works with the rest of the U.K. and not against it

Take a look at Scottish politics, I work with Scots who have a huge interest. The SNP and Scottish Labour Party despise each other.
British politics is not defined by those “evil Tories” versus all those lovely other parties, and it never will be. Far more complex that, with widely varying agendas within the Tory and Labour parties too.
Can’t argue with that.
