What if any recourse do I have?

I've photographed the house.
I'll send them off to my excellent solicitor, later.

Just wondering what he's likely to come back and say.

They filled in the form saying the house would be clear

We're talking:-

Filing cabinet.
Clothes.
Bookshelves.
Plants.
Bedside cabinets.
Tat on the walls (amulets and wind chimes!)
An entire shed is completely full.
Curtains etc.
3 wardrobes.

It's all been slung in the garden but it's going to cost a small fortune in skips to get rid of it all.

Had the same problem many years ago - my solicitor got the sellers to hire a skip and hire people to clear all the rubbish they had left.

What plants have you inherited?

Looks like one or two useful items in that shed, it would be a shame if it all went to landfill. Put up a sign saying "Free Stuff" if you can be bothered - a lot might get taken away. I was happy with old but usable tools (and a bicycle) that previous owners left in a house I bought. They did ask though, tbf.

Let them know through your solicitor that you will send the bill for the tats removal. The same happened to my son a few years back and that was the little push that got them back to take it

That looks very much like an executor sale !

Nope alive and well and have been an absolute pain to deal with, throughout the move.
So I wasn't surprised by the state of the place when finally got the key.
