Mounting Disks

Can anyone give me some information on mounting disks. For instance do I need software to do it? Will I need to format my hard drive?

Mounting? What OS? Windows automounts all recognised hard drives, and the operation is unrelated to formatting...

I have downloaded some software and the instructions say to either burn it to a disk, or mount it on a virtual drive. I am using XP.

Mounting as a virtual drive needs virtual drive software such as that that comes with Nero. It is not supported out-of-the-box by Windows XP.

You can also use daemon tools to do it. Thats what I use anyway.
