I'm surprised no-ones mentioned Gordon Smith, maybe people only remember him for "that" moment in the cup final.

Mark Lawrenson - easily the best defender of the past 35 years
Frank Worthington - skill and class just oozed out of him, but his legs had gone by the time we got him. The rest of the team were shown up something rotten by him even then.

Mark Lawrenson is the best player I've seen playing for The Albion, I saw my first match in 1958, but I'm not sure he was the most skilful, but he could certainly read the game and was very quick to spot and deal with dangerous attacks.

Rod Thomas lit up the priestfield days prior to his ankle injury. Most skilful bobby Z or gotsmanov.

Skill you say......two that I have seen Gotsmanov (made the game look so easy) and John Byrne (knew the game inside out).

Gotsmanov-for sure was quality

There is only one: Peter Ward

Bobby Z comes second.

Third and there are lots to choose from: Alex Dawson, Willie Irvine, Gerry Ryan etc etc. In the past the slower speed made for more ball skills.

Jeff Minton for me. Maradona-esque. Maybe it was the poor quality of his teammates that made him shine.

What games were you watching blood and thunder and excitement but never guilty of being skilful.

Omg - are you SURE you are on the right club's board mate? You certainly cannot be referring to Wardy - the very slight curly kid who wriggled and slalomed through defences and could win a game without getting the ball more than once in it.

Ward. He'd leave TOP defenders sitting in the dust ready to give up their careers. The guy was lightning, greased pig, twinkle toes and epitome of the word 'Magic'. If a genie came out of a magic lamp and you asked for football talent on a George Best kind of scale, you would be turned into Peter Ward.

After that, I thought Eric Potts had some fancy footwork, and Gordon Smith could bamboozle nicely.
Then there's the less than popular choice, Leon Knight.

Kerry Mayo looked absolute class when warming up at half-time.

I didn't realise half time warm ups qualified.
In that case I give you .. Jake Robinson.
Sublime control and touch when he only had 4 other players on the pitch and they were all his squad mates.
