I've just been listening to an old Staind track on the radio and I remember buying their album 'Breaking the cycle'. It's not the worst thing I've ever heard but boy is it miserable.

Anybody heard anything as tragic ?

I can say that I was thoroughly disappointed by a Howlin' Wolf cd, as I had heard he had a prominent blues vocal style that contained an urgency and charisma. It was even a 50th Anniversary Remaster jobby, so HAD to be the dogs. It was thin and tinny, and showed no strength or depth to the artist or music.
Then I spotted a Howlin' Wolf LP in the same shop on their wall. I gave that a listen and it was outrageous, full sound with all the quality I'd heard about.

CDs are shite. Digital music is a cheap imitation that doesn't hold up but is cheap and convenient to produce and carry.
Listen to records, even better if you got valve amplifiers and a decent cartridge.

A lot of people say that but let's face it, digital is far more convenient and also doesn't have the hiss that cassettes had.

What's that track on Lou Reed's Berlin album...the one about the authorities taking the children away. That's pretty gloomy.

Coldplay when pucs insist on playing the entire crapshite, lost count of the number of times I've asked pubs to turn that shit off!

Anything by Coldplay is morose and boring to me. Also although I am sure it will be controversial, but The Smiths are another band that appear dismal too.

Most of The Wall ( and this from a massive Floyd fan ), Waters appears to have disappeared up his own miserable arse at this stage of the band's demise

Comfortably Numb can be forgiven as it is just such an awesome track

I know that millions of people love the Smiths but I too find them rather sad. Echo and the Bunnymen are of a similar vein but each to there own.

I once had a latoya jackson CD. I can't remember if my parents bought it or if it came free with a personal cd player I got one christmas.

An obscure one, but once on the strength of a pretty decent John Peel session I bought an album by The Immortal Lee County Killers. Got home and listened to it and it was the worst thing I'd ever heard. Still got it somewhere, not been out of the case since mind.

Made the mistake of buying Talvin Singh's album 'Ok' on the strength of it winning the Mercury Music Prize in 1999. Truly, madly, deeply DIRE.
