On the 50th anniversary of the landings, H and J on TS were discussing the conspiracy theories, and came to the conclusion that there were literally too many people directly involved with NASA, for it not to have come out over 50years if it had been faked.

I remember watching a documentary about it on the TV about 20 years ago and was moved to tears. It was an incredible moment in history.

There are countless reasons why it wasn't fake.

1. If it was fake, how come all those jubilant actors on the set of NASA were 1000s of times more convincing than all the much more famous and well-paid actors in every other adventure movie, ever?
Number one, do people really think the Russians would have let them get away with it? They would have had so much surveillance on everything, especially the direction of the signal. Unfortunately, at a time when evidence is literally at our fingertips, we are being shown incapable of using the resources available.
I have never questioned what I saw on that grainy tv in the livingroom in Newhaven as a kid. What I have done is look at ways of showing these idiots the level of their idiocy.

If it didn't happen, I'm dying to know how the USA have kept Russia quiet all this time as they were monitoring everything and have never called it out :dunce:

I've been through the many reasons why we know it actually happened. That's number 1 on the list.

Weird thing to say. The original question and the poll are incompatible, as my (not challenged) reading skills clearly showed me!

Take it easy. He completely ballsed up the poll, and is a bit embarrassed.

I suspect that somewhere down the chain of people who promote and fund this sort of nonsense you'll find the Russian government. Part of their campaign to unsettle other countries by making people feel like they can't trust anything.

I say I "suspect" this, I'd be amazed if it wasn't true to at least some extent.

I judge people on this stuff. Permanently.

Anyone starts spouting conspiracy nonsense like this, we can’t know each other. I could have been married to you for 45 years, you start believing this crap and you’re out of the house.

Never questioned it myself but recently I have spoken to younger people who are CONVINCED it never happened.

Up there with the flat earth society for me

You?

As a boring random fact, My family emigrated to Spain in 1969 and we reached the French/Spanish border as it was happening. Customs were glued to their tiny black and white tvs and we were just waved through with no checks at all.
Young people are stupid. They grew up online.
They’re brainwashed morons.

And no amount of ridiculous GCSE exam 1+** gold double we are all winners A+Gold *** results will convince me otherwise.

Young people can’t imagine leaving the confines of their bedrooms. They couldn’t conceive of doing something that takes effort.

Loony toony, wack-a-doodle, mollycoddled, confused, automatons.

Then there's the 'van allen radiation belt' that they would have to have passed through. People question why they haven't gone back since? There's not much there would be my reply.

Also I'm sure I read somewhere that NASA lost all of the research and technology for the first moon landing? Although I stand to be corrected.
The Van Allen Radiation Belts are an area of intense radiation around the Earth you have to pass through to get to deep space. However there are gaps with less intense radiation which is where the lunar missions passed through, they would have had to spend a week in them to suffer any real damage.

As for why they haven't gone back, they did! Six manned craft landed on the moon in total. As for why they haven't since, it's the cost. NASA's budget has massively shrunk since the original moon missions.

The part about "lost all the research and technology" is technically true as they don't build the specific rockets and don't have the manufacturing in place to recreate them right now, and there's not much point as they're outdated.
Just finding all the schematics would be a huge task, it's like saying build an exact copy of the Ford Model T with every part being exactly the same as it was.

Anyway, we're going back again hopefully next year and I can't wait. Shame all the conspiracy theorists will just say it's CGI.

For me, these conspiracy theories always fall down on the utterly mundane.

Any project of any significant size

How long and how many project staff would a project of that size take ?
What about Support Staff, Recruitment, Admin, Finance, HR, Payroll, Offices, Building services, IT services etc etc
How big would the project office have to be ?
How many cock ups would you expect on a project of that size, complexity and length ?
What if someone leaves, gets sick, gets hospitalised, dies during the project ?
What happens to all the finance/purchasing trails ?
What does everyone put on their cv for their next job ?

Oh, and all of these people, paper trails, electronic information, history etc must remain top secret, just between the few hundred/thousand of us for years and years :dunce:

It's an interesting subject. America were desperate to get there before the Russians. Would they have gone to such lengths as too fake it though?

The theory in the film Interstellar was that the Americans faked it in order to make the Russians spend huge amounts of time, money and resources on an ultimately pointless endeavour.
