He has done a lot better than Swann this series. Will be interesting to see whether or not he can make it as no 1 choice spinner again

He's the leading wicket taker for England in this series despite only playing two of the three tests. This tour has been a shambles, the re-emergence of Panasar has been the ONLY bright point.

as soon as England go back to their regular selection policy of one spinner, Monty will be out of the side and, frankly, Swann has earned that with his play over past couple of years. however, having seen their respective performances on this tour, Swann had better turn things round pretty quickly as Monty has shown he is ready to be a #1 spinner (and that's got as much to do with the general development in his game since he fell out of favour with the England selectors as it has with his performance against Pakistan). either way it's good for England - pressure on Swann to perform, replacement ready and raring to go if he can't respond.

if they both perform at their best, who knows, we might see two spinners more often...but i doubt it. two spinners in an England team is as rare and exciting as a Vicente sighting.
