Money from the Playoff Final

I'm sure that someone on here posted that all the gate money from the final is distributed amongst the Div 2 teams. However, on this site :-

The Football League

It seems as if the finalists get 50% between them. Which would be a nice tidy sum. Better to lose in the final than the semis.

A rough estimate :-

60000 x £30 = £1.8 million
Take off £500000 for expenses = £1.3 million.
25% of £1.3 million = £325000

Figure in merchandising - £500000 is not to be sniffed at. The wages of 2 or 3 decent players.

If we get the kit sorted and in the club shop then would easily sell at least 10000 shirts at a profit of £20 each which would be another 200 grand.

Aldershot had special shirts for the Conference play-off final available to their fans, and the manufacturers were.......Errea!

I've actually carried on reading the rules and regs. All of the profits from the semi finals go into the pot to be shared out so the clubs only get expenses.

Also, someone was asking the other day about what happens if Bradford fold. Not nice to think about but I found the rule about it. It doesn't say whether or not they would not relegate 1 team from Div 1 or promote 1 from Div 2 but if they have to promote, it would be based on league position rather than playoff performance. So our only hope would be if Bristol City win the final. As I read it, if this happened, we would be promoted even if we lose to Swindon as we would be the highest placed remaining team. I'll carry on ploughing through as I'm bored at work. I'll let you know if I find anything else interesting.

Only a short term gain though. There would be a couple of thousand who wouldn't normally buy shirts but the rest would buy the new kit in the autumn anyway.

Still, every little helps!

OK - as I understand it, if a club folds during a season, the number of relegation places is reduced. However, if they fold in the close season, the highest placed non-promoted club is promoted. So if say MK Wimbledon folded between now and August and Bristol City won the playoff final, we would be promoted. If anyone else won the playoff final, Bristol City would be promoted.

Not saying it's going to happen but it's interesting to know what the rules are.

Superwife discussed this with DK recently, the official answer is that the 2 teams each get 25% of the gate receipts from Cardiff.

Surely as they have already been relegated, it will be Division 2 that is short of a team, which would result in an extra team being promoted from Division 3 and the Conference.

The scenario described only works if the folding team has NOT been relegated. Bradford City are effectively a second div team from 1 June (I believe).
