Nice to hear positive feedback on our season start.

Just a small gripe, if they are casting this panel on quotas, can they please fill the ex Man City defender role with Nedum Onuoha, might get some insight that is original.

Listening to Micah Richards trying to use the English language is comedy gold.

Always enjoy the MNC they don’t take themselves too seriously and it’s nice, light hearted entertainment.

Essential listening for me.

Perfect way to ease into the week - and a very natural chemistry between Mark Chapman, Chris 'You're Better Than That' Sutton, Micah Richards and Rory Smith. Always great radio.

I just love most of 5Live, but particularly the sport and football coverage - it's just about all I listen to.

It's a really good group of people, and I agree with Bry Nylon's assessment of the chemistry between the usual crew.

In related news, I'm currently in mourning at Anna Foster's departure from Drive.

As you know, I am similarly bereft at the loss of the incomparable Anna Foster from my weekday afternoons/ early evenings; but having said that I thought Jacqui Oatley did a fine, fine job today. She is another natural broadcaster and seemed to strike a good rapport with Tony Livesey. Not sure if she is the permanent new presenter but I would be very happy with the choice if she is.

Once he’s stopped giggling:D

Rory did get something wrong tonight ..indicating our back three of tall centre backs were just that and not ball players…Dunk and Webster definitely are ball players

Sutton pulled him up on that point, and quite rightly so.

Fully agree, it’s always a great listen.

They all work well together, Rory Smith is a brilliant journalist and Chappers is only rivalled by James Richardson as a sports presenter, love him.

I didn't hear MNC tonight, but I will listen back, but that might explain something else I heard later on...

In the early stages of the commentary of the West Ham v Leicester game, Jonathan Pearce went off on a bit of a ramble about how Lewis Dunk is one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in the league, before going on to talk about Shane Duffy. At the time I thought it was strange, as it had absolutely nothing to do with the game he was commentating on.

It’s in the clip that the thread starter talked about

I am a 110% R5 addict. Me and Mrs T were listening this evening and when we realised it was JO presenting so eloquently....well, blow us both down. She was excellent, but... what will happen to the Oatley ROAR! ? ???

"He used his fine pair of thighs there, WHAT a challenge"

I will miss her commentary, now she has ascended to the presenter cloud. <sigh>

Richards is rubbish when he does a voxpop report on anything...you can hear his notes rustle and fall to the floor as he tries desperately to read them. But as a part of the team, spontaneous comments and that, brilliant. And the laugh? Bring it on.

Chris Sutton, what a star!
A pundit that has paid attention to what's happening at The Amex and has an understanding of our squad's identity.

He did well to jump on Rory Smith to correct him about our 'big' defenders.

Oatley’s going to be doing a podcast under The Athletic banner soon Harry so look out for that.

I can't join the general love in for 5 live I'm afraid (I'm sure Wozza will help me out soon enough). Crews, bantz, Nihal and Scott Mills have turned a once great radio station into a parody of itself at times. That's before I even start on Emma "Have I told you im not thick but I am blonde" Barnett getting replaced (hooray) with someone even more patronising and annoying (Naga). Boo.

That all said, I do like the MNC and Colin Murray who is criminally wasted in the truckers shift. I've shifted to the Times radio for now. Its a bit dry and Mariella Forstrup is far too up her own arse for me but at least they let the guests speak without interuption and vary the diet of conversation beyond the culture wars.

Ha! An overall assessment that pretty much mirrors my own, regarding some of the newer presenters.

Naga, I agree is pretty much unlistenable owing to the non-stop patronising drivel she seeps into the airwaves. Yesterday she was interviewing a couple of Team GB Para-Olympians and gushing about how she couldn’t wait for the games to start and would be glued to it. You could tell even her two guests were thinking “FFS - give it a rest.” All Naga does is make the sheer sense of relief and joy even more acutely felt when the wonderfully dry, personable and self-deprecating Adrian Chiles takes over Thursday and Friday. Wish he could get the gig all week.

And don’t even get me started on that idiot Nihal. Sometimes he specialises in................long pauses .................between comments, in an effort, I’m assuming, to give his opinions a sense of gravitas.. Sometimes these pauses are so long I think I have lost reception. Without exception, these gaps of dead air are the best bits of his output.

Having said all that, Chris Sutton really is a broadcasting god. Who knew?

I know I'm getting old and grumpy, but I've just about reached the end of my tether with most of R5L. In the halcyon days (assuming they existed) it was a great listen, but it seems to have submitted to a massive "dumbing down" process over the past few years. I find Nicky Campbell one of the most patronising presenters on radio. There was a glorious interlude during the Olympics (and the morning coverage on R5L was excellent). It was a shame the Beeb didn't take the opportunity of that break to pension Campbell off.
Likewise, a lot of the footie stuff is equally banal. The MNC is one of the few exceptions. Luckily there are loads of podcasts which provide really good analysis. And of course Test Match Special is a marvel!

I reckon Chappers wins the prize for "well known person who I could go for a pint with and not constantly feel like I was drinking with a famous person and should be a bit starstruck"

Agree Drive is very good. Chiles is very good. Haven't heard Naga yet

Are you able to watch this show live over the internet because how are you able to tell what people are thinking on the radio?
You can't see their facial expressions to see what they may even be thinking.
