I am fully aware of this - just sharing what is being reported on Twitter as the hold upClub don’t like release clauses and can see why as takes away our control over when and for how much a player leaves. The club have always been clear that is valuation is met and timing works then won’t stand in a players way and there are plenty of examples to show we have done exactly that.
TalkSport reporting this as the reason tooIt's as good a theory as any but sounds more like a guess.
Let's not make it an accepted FACTOID.
The guy that reported it, is facing a serious influx of Chelsea fans telling him it's Brighton's fault for the high Caicedo fee.
Mac signed his new contract BEFORE the WC!? I thought we agreed one for Mac when he renewed after the World Cup. Accepting that might be slightly different as otherwise he might have cleared off in January; but.......
Is their source Twitter guesswork ?TalkSport reporting this as the reason too
Too late, once it’s on Twitter it becomes a FACT.It's as good a theory as any but sounds more like a guess.

Sorry! I blame my old age for faulty memoryMac signed his new contract BEFORE the WC!
Hehe. I would imagine the release clause would of been a LOT higher if he signed a new contract as a WC winner!Sorry! I blame my old age for faulty memory
OK I’ll shut up then, just sharing the info FFSIs their source Twitter guesswork ?
Small time mentality right here. If you can’t handle the ‘constant uncertainty’ then just log off NSC - he’s either here or he isn’t, no uncertainty. Same as it was in the old days.....and then the links to a move in January start immediately and go on week after week.
We need to get rid now. Clear the decks, cash in and move on. He is a very good player but is immature and easily influenced. In January, his dream move was Arsenal. Now, apparently, its Chelsea. Who next?
We don't need this constant uncertainty. He has only played one full season in the PL and who knows how his career will develop. Let someone else wear the shirt who doesn't appear to be playing under sufferance and sulk.
Good post.accept the club don’t like release clauses but there’s lots of different ways to play it. could have one that becomes active after two seasons, for example. or a facilitation clause like mac allister had, whereby there was a base amount guaranteed but then further possibilities with add ons. we’re probably still talking to him about those, and thrashing out a solution that works for both is probably what’s taking the time

The difference with Mac was that he was going to have 1 year left on his contract. We agreed the deal because we weren't selling for less than we'd have got anyway. That's quite different to offering a clause to a new signingGood post.
Mac got one that seemed hugely complex and probably took many months to agree.
It could be true. Equally, untrue things develop legendary undisputable truth if repeated enough. It's a good theory at least.OK I’ll shut up then, just sharing the info FFS
Totally agree. I’ve read today that West Ham have exactly this type of clause with Paqueta where he has a release clause but that doesn’t become active until next summer. This sounds like a good compromise that gets the player to show a certain level of commitment to the club before they start thinking of moving on. If the player only wants to use us as a stepping stone and move on after 1 season I bet they wouldn’t be happy if we only offered them a 1 year contract !accept the club don’t like release clauses but there’s lots of different ways to play it. could have one that becomes active after two seasons, for example. or a facilitation clause like mac allister had, whereby there was a base amount guaranteed but then further possibilities with add ons. we’re probably still talking to him about those, and thrashing out a solution that works for both is probably what’s taking the time
