But now the realisation that the Premier League is a commercialised brand dictated by money is sinking in with more younger fans than in previous generations.

The only argument people can conjure up for the 'modern football is good' department is that there's a higher quality of football available to the public, but fans lived without it before with no troubles and got along supporting their local teams instead of staying at home watching their 'team' from the comfort of their chair. What we're getting now is people who can't properly enjoy football because of corporate soulless grounds, over paid players and extortionate ticket prices. Football is going one way, and it's not the right one.

Just sounds stupid coming from like an 11 year old that is all.

I think the posters in their 30/40s have a reason to argue it because they have been around for this 'modern era' and the last era....

Well If it is Johnny then he still only 16. He's acting like he used to love it in the olden days and now it's been ruined by money.
Well he wasn't alive back then so....!

You can get banned for mentioning peoples first names on here, you know.:O

It's not Johnny. Lets not get detracted from the point.

It shouldn't matter how old you are, I've heard several stories from the past on what the game used to be like and searched the web for information. I've read articles on people giving the same arguement as me. It's easy to build an opinion on something as long as you do your research. Posters on here who don't go to watch Brighton play still have a fair and accurate opinion on how the club is doing.

A Xmas gift tip here. Remember the football mag "Match"? Well there's a book out for Xmas which is match in the 80's and full of loads of dodgy perms and short shorts, many now well known TV pundits.

Some of it is a bit scary and the paroxide blond that is Alan Biley is in there somewhere.

Ideal gift for those who yearn for the 80's or even to show youngsters that Alan Brazil once had wild hair!

Bought MFIR for my bro in-law for Cringlemas, funnily enough. A great read I thought, & a really welcome trip down memory lane.

I miss many things about the old times: the characters (which seem to be lacking these days); the blood & thunder of the domestic game; cheats being less prevalent; & affordable tickets & terracing. But then we had the overt racism & massed violence etc didn't we? I guess things sometimes move on for very good reasons.

Where from and how much?

Has anyone else actually bought it? I'm surprised that only one person from the whole of NSC has it.

B.O.F where are you? I'd have thought this'd be right up your street

Anyone read the book? It's by Nick Davidson I think. I've had a look on the web and all the reviews seem very promising. For £6 it seems a really good buy, certainly a lot better than Rio Ferdinand or Steven Gerrards latest autobiography...

And just for a bit of debate, do you agree with the title of the book?

Edit: If you disagree then please back up your opinion, I've yet to come across a good arguement on how football now is better than it was in the 60's/70's/80's.
just an old bloke banging on about how marvellouis it all was when he was a kid. the sun always shone, the team always won, blah blah blah

Its not better or worse, its just differernt. Just like it was different from when your Dad used to watch it........
